Anyone have any tips for sewing a pregnancy skirt? I've made others, but maternity is new to me. I've got a real cool piece of fabric from Nepal. I wanted the skirt to have strips of two kinds of cloth, but I'm not sure how to go about the top of it. Any ideas of how to alter regular pants would be cool too!
my only idea would be to make a very large waist with a drawstring so it can expand with the belly... i'm not too familiar with maternity clothes though (except pants with the big elastic part for the belly and shirts that are verrry large for the belly as well...)
You can make it so the skirt sits low under your belly. Just make sure its nice and soft . With my jeans and regular button pants all I do is take a hair band and twist it through the button hole and secure it onto the button on the otherside. You just have to have long shirts so no one will see the little belly showing inbetween where the elastic is allowing the pants to expand. oh and like Tigerlily said, drawstrings!
I third what Tigerlily said. I wore all of my drawstring/elastic skirts throughout my pregnancys. Just sit em below your belly. No need to have a special skirt made.
Thanks for all the replies! I think I'll go with the under belly method. It's so easy. "If you've got it, flaunt it!" Thanks!
