I'm a normal kid and shit and every once and a while i have some kinda bad depression. Do those anti depressants actually help you get "happier" or do they just keep you from having breakdowns?

They prevent break downs, and give you the breathing space to look at your real problems.
As a poccket neuroscientist, I'll tell you that MOST people should not be on them for an extended period of time. I was on them for 2 months, long enough to get my shit together. Sorry to hear life is getting you down.

I completely agree, I was on paxil for a period of one year and it really did help me be able to get out and work on my issues with a counsellor without worry. I also believe though, that depression comes from looking at situations in a way that you attack yourself instead of understanding yourself...I actually did a lot of cognitive behavioural therapy and it worked for me quite amazingly...but you have to want to help yourself.

they dont "prevent" breakdowns.. but they do help with that.

no, they do NOT make you "happier"... they are NOT happy pills. you wont even notice their effects really...

unless you look back and realize "wow, i did this and this much easier"
