so, pregnancy has got me a bit ... over sensitive, emotionally speaking...

sheesh. i have a fairly prickly nature, and usually i can get along pretty well because i KNOW i'm kinda thin-skinned. my loved ones appreciate it, because they're a pretty abrasive bunch. but i know they love me and they don't mean to hurt my feelings, and so i can sift through the unintentional insults for what they're really trying to get at...(thank you counseling!).

so, anyway, i'm a pretty articulate person. i can usually express myself clearly and succinctly, but not so during pregnancy, apparently. it's making me insane. it's like i've developed a severe stutter or something. this sometimes gets me all worked up. last night was one of those occaisions.

dave came home, and i think perhaps his preoccupation with his upcoming camping trip kinda shut down his "sensitivity chip" (with apologies to ms. anniston). he was a bit on the harsh side. for example, i mentioned that the baby was responding to me when i would push in on what felt like her hand on my side. she would push back. it was very cute. i was only saying that we interacted, not that the baby was consciously saying "hi mom! let's play!' rather that she responded physically. well, dave went off on my choice of the word "response," since that implied a degree of intelligence that babies don't yet have. when i tried to explain that i meant on the reflexive level, well, he was still a bit harsh.

so, there were a couple other incidents like that during the evening, and i finally got irritated and said "UGH! why do you keep mocking me all night?" okay, first of all, mocking wasn't even the word i wanted to use, totally not the right thing. but at any rate, dave jumped right back at me and said that he hadn't been mocking me at all (which he wasn't, he was just being harsh) and that i was over sensitive. well, i was, i know it.

and so, i decided to let it drop, because i wouldn't be able to tell him why i was so upset in the first place, being unable to communicate properly, and i WAS over sensitive. i just really really hate this inability to properly respond. i'm losing my mind.

hmm....I don't tend to believe that babies don't have intelligence, even before birth. So if someone implied that I was irrational to say my baby responded, I'd be a bit upset too. Maybe in your heart, you realise this too. Maybe that's why it bothered you.

Anyway, at any rate, your husband should be trying to be more sensitive. You're on bed rest, frustrated, have preggo-brains, and your husband should be trying to be sensitive to that. You have every right to be upset at him.

well, i dunno. upon reflection, he DIDN'T really say anything out of the ordinary, we have those sorts of discussions all the time. but suddenly, out of the blue, i'm getting all hurt.

it's ok - hell, you haven't had a good night's sleep in a long while, you can't eat much without feeling sick, your body aches in weird places and you haven't seen your feet in months - not to mention your hormones are on a roller coaster! of COURSE you're a little sensitive!

last summer when i was feelin a little out of sorts from bein pregnant, i'd just stick my feet out on my hubby for a nice foot rub - made me feel better right away :)

yeah, i love to have my hair brushed. get some foot lotion with mint in it, makes your feet feel all cool & tingly. i'm really lucky, my hubby spoils me rotten with all the little things he does for me.
