Man, I cant seem to find ANYONE who likes Dream Theater, let alone people that know who DT is. hmmm. Well, I'm still playin them and seein them whenever I can. I think the lead singer can veer on the side of cheesy occasionally, but man....Portnoy is a kickass drummer, Jon Petrucci does ridiculous things on that guitar of his, and Jon Myung plays the electric sitar and the bass. What more could you ask for?
I like Dream Theater alright. I know what you mean about the cheesiness though. A change of seasons is bad ass.
They mean a lot to me, their changed my musical taste soooo much. Anyway, they are playing here in Argentina in December... and on the second show they will play Dark Side of the Moon... OMG.
Dream Theater is a great progressive rock band. They have released a lot of great music. I love to play the guitar parts of several songs including Carpe Diem and the Silent Man because of the diversity and the complex patterns. It's really cool stuff and the song writing is top notch. Later, Ben.
YEH ROCK ON!! im goin 2 c dream theater in 2 days woooooooooo, and i jus came on here 2 start a thread 2 c if anyone else liked them lol, they are amazing, all have such great talent, love them
ahh yeh i went to see them last night, they were so amazing and they did dark sid eof the moon wich was also wel amazing. if ur going lizard king, u will love it
Dream Theater is my all-time favorite band. I know what you mean though...most people have hardly even heard the name "Dream Theater," let alone know what kind of music they are. I think James has an awesome voice. Now, if you want to hear cheesy as far as singing goes (the album itself is amazing), you have to listen to When Dream and Day Unite (I'm sure you already know what that is). Charlie Dominici amuses me...haha. But yeah, Mike is an amazing drummer, John Petrucci is a guitar god and John Myung is mind-blowing on bass and chapman stick. Jordan is a talented keyboardist although he can go off on weird tangents and use cheesy lead sounds sometimes. But yeah...DT kicks major ass and it's cool to find someone else who appreciates them I've seen them 4 times so far...two of those times this summer during Gigantour. One of those times I was in the second row standing and it was incredible. I wish I could relive it.
Sweet. Yea, I think Mike Portnoy lives in Allentown which is kinda near me. I should take him and the fam out to dinner at Perkins.
yeh i dnt no much of them cept they kuinda had so many dream theater members they didnt bother goin nemor and 1 of there songs end with like circus music lol
finally a fan who admits they can sound cheesy!! they are a very talented band but most fans wont admit that they hit the cheese factor sometimes.
well now you know me. ... I really dont like their music, I just listened to a bit of it.. and metallish music is not my time.. sure theyre pretty amazing (virtuose-like maybe) with their instruments and their music... but they just dont show enough passion for me.. I dont give a crap if a guy can dabble on a pentatonic scale intensively for minutes.. I research more of a "moody" feel in music.. like David Gilmour's super tight bends.. that kind of music searches you deep into your soul to make you feel things... BUt with Dream Theater I really dont feel anything, maybe anger.
