I absolutely do.... you know how you're supposed to have 5-10 fruits a day? I get my 5 first thing in the morning, in a blender with a cup of vanilla yogurt.... very delicious and awesomely filling... and I don't need coffee anymore cuz it perks me right up!
i had fruit smoothies for breakfast every day last year and they're the best breakfast ever. i like to make 'em with frozen fruit, it's kinda like having ice cream for breakfast. my favourite combo was this storebought fruit salad mix with honeydew, cantaloupe, peach and grape. also, when my 6 pear trees dropped all their fruit this summer, this is how i dealt with the massive amounts of rotting fruit in my house. you can just pack it in and the fruit disappears fast.
Related to a smoothie is a Mexican milkshake called an avena in which they use oatmeal instead of icecream.. I've used oat flour insted and like it better, plus you can drink it through a straw. Just put a couple of cups of milk in a blender. Add about 1/3 cup oat flour a few tbsps of sugar (to taste) and if you like, a sprinkling of cinnamon. Blend it well and drink. You'll have to stir once in a while as the oatmeal or flour will tend to settle to the bottom, but it sure is tasty and a way to get oatmeal's nutrition on days when it's just too hot to eat oatmeal.
i'm picky when it comes to what fruits i like....so if i put a flavored yogurt with strwberries and crushed ice? i'm not sure how much and of what i would put..any good recipies with like strawberries and blueberries and grapes?
I could live off of smoothies! Breakfast, dinner, snack, whatever! I like the berry ones best, and banana/pineapple ones.
1 whole peach + 1 whole banana +1 handful of strawberries + 1 small scoop of fat-free vanilla ice cream/frozen yogurt = One very happy stomach!!!
I have lately been putting 50 g of açaí or acerola in a pitcher and adding enough orange juice to make a glass (about 250 ml total) and mixing it with one of those tiny battery-powered mixers. But as I just guzzled 800 grams of açaí within hours of buying it, I think that's not enough. I have the idea of putting 100 g each of acerola and açaí and a fifth of an abacaxi in a blender. But I don't have a blender. Oh well, someday I'll get one.
One small can frozen OJ, 2 tablespoons soy isolate, a splash cranberry juice, vanilla soymilk till the desired consistency
Mmm so good! I think I will have a Cherry and banana smoothie tomorrow with raw honey and yogurt. Its all organic too.
10 Fruits is entirely too much a day! If you go to http://www.mypyramid.gov and enter your age, gender, and how much physical activity you get per day, they map out exactly how much of what you should have per day. For me, a 20 year old female, who works out an hour a day, I should get 2 cups of fruit. I generally get all of that in one smoothie!
10 fruits is a bit much for me too....I love fruit, but try to keep it at a minimum as diabetes runs in the family and i like to keep the sugars on the low. But a smoothie for breakfast in the morning wit organic fruit, organic nonfat yogurt and my chosen supplements of the day soothes my fruit craving and jump starts my day.....currently having a orange/raspberry one! 1 organic orange (juiced) 1/2 cup organic raspberries 3/4 cup organic nonfat yogurt 3 ice cubes and for me, 1 tsp. blue green algae
1 cup soy milk or skim milk, 1/3 cup firm tofu, 1/4 cup frozen papaya, 1/4 cup frozen pineapple, 1/4 cup frozen mango, 1 tablespoon honey, 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract. Place all the ingredients in a blender. Blend, pulsing the machine if necessary, until smooth, making sure the honey is dissolved.
2 bananas. 1/4 cup wheat germ. 1 cup pear juice. 1/2 cup sheep's milk yogurt. 4 oz. silken tofu. 2 tablespoons pecans. 1 tablespoon sunflower seeds. Peel and slice the bananas and put in a blender with remaining ingredients. Blend until smooth.
