ok, well i just got dread locks, they looks nice, but some of them are extreemly lose and have barley any base anymore, it feels like they are starting to come apart, i am supposed to feel like this?
They are fine. Leave them alone for awhile and just chill. This is not a hairstyle that should require much thought.
shouldn't take much thought... but unfortunately... can end up being a lot of work the first year. dreads don't form over night unless yer blessed with the right hair. but like they said, leave the loose ones alone for now. just don't play with em. get a tam and stuff em in and let em tighten up. if after a while you still think they're coming loose. get a strong fine tooth comb and you can try to back comb em tighter if need be. i remember the first 9 monthes.... every month or so i'd take the comb and pull the locks tighter. but i had super straight hair that actually tried to revolt against tangle
That's only if you make them. They'll form eventually whether you do anything or not. Why stress yourself out over it?
there's nothing to stress.... and after having mine fer 5 years almost, i don't have to do nothing cept rip em apart once a month and massage oils into em to keep the hair healthy and not break. and yes.... if you have the right texture of hair, they will grow on their own, though you'll need to keep on top of seperating them or you'll end up with one giant bongo in the back of yer head that pulls and tugs and yer scalp(giving you headaches you wouldn't believe) and refuses to let you massage the skin under it resulting in rashes and bad bad shit. however, not all of us are blessed with super textured hair my tresses were as straight and silky as could be. we're talkin pantene commercial hair.) i just 'let it be' for over 6 monthes and i shit you not.... it looked like i'd combed it on a regular basis!! i tried not washing... i tried washing with bar soap.... i tried leaving it down... i tried leaving it in a tam. nothing... absolutely NOTHING tangled my hair. so, the fact is, some of us have to work em in one way or another. my friend's husband tried to let his dreads form on their own... 4 years later, he only had this messy patch in the back of his head similar to what babies get when they rub their heads on their beds... nothing you'd call dready but there's ways of helping em in thats less involved than others. everyone's dreads are different.... and everyone comes to having them differently its a wonderful and diverse tribe we live within ain't it??
if you want them to be tighter, make good friends with the term palm rolling.....im sure you know what that means...its the only thing that helped me with my dreads, and i have straight-as-a-pin hair and it dreaded up tight in a couple weeks....good luck
best advice i can give, no matter what your problem with your dreads are...just leave them be, give them time and the problem will correct itself. iv been doin the natual thing for 8 months now and they are no where near completely locked and tight. give me another year though and they'll be awsome :sunglasse
