i mean, i know what it is, but i dont really get it. i write down my thoughts every night. i would kind of like to think that it was my personally designed version of poems, but most of the time it doesnt rhyme and it doesnt make sense to other people. but i write what i feel and i think thats all that should matter. cause im not writing for the world to see anyway. at least not right now.

everyone has their own meaning for poetry, some think it has to be in a certain prose or rhyme. I think that it is a subconcious flow of your thoughts, some poems are just worded to sound good. If youre writing to please everyone else, you have to pay attention to word flow, and style, and appealing to that certain audience. To me, poetry, is whatever I write down that helps me get something out of my system or just to have fun. keep writing, its your own, and NO ONE can say your wrong, or take it away from you

poetry written the way you write it, for your eyes only, is wonderful, but don't expect others to understand it or care about it. "Poetry" in the way that is most useful and appreciated by society is functional as well as beautiful, and usually the product of countless revision and hard labor. that's the only kind that makes money.

but often I write the way you do -- it is theraputic and helps me make sense of things. it feels so good. and oftentimes, beautiful, meaningful lines emerge. yes, what you feel is all that matters when you're writing for yourself. keep at it. :)

    yup, thats about right.

though i've stirred myself crazy deconstructing reasons as to why 'overall' good poetry is "good". we can only write it for ourself, until the moment of sharing arrives. but then, how can someone ever decipher what each word means to you personally? its just interpretation. experts say what famous poet's poems signify, but do they really fukkin know? i dont think so. just interpretation. music is bad azz.

Poetry is what you make of it and it is how you feel and veiw things in your own way.Who cares what other people think it is all about you and what you want to do. I really don't know what else to say because that is how I make my living I write poems. It is almost the song and the story of your life so make it what you can.

that was my point herebutnot. but do you feel whoever reads it to understand it in depth as much as your heart does? i feel you, what you write is for you, but like i was sayin someone else can like it a lot but in their own interpretation. in other words, it will mean something to you, & can mean something entirely different to the reader. so i see sharing it has no real intention except simply the illusion that your thoughts will be shared, giving personal satisfaction

    Hmm, this is interesting.

I've only recently started reading poetry. I read poems to try and find what makes a good one (to help with my musings), and because I enjoy reading them.

The only thing I can find in common with all of the "really good poems" is that I like them because I can relate to them, can feel the flow, and at least a line sends a shiver through me or brings a tear to my eye.

So I guess a good poem is one that I like. Hmm. Sorry. Not much help then am I!!

What is funny though is that when I study a photographs I can actually point to what makes it a good picture. Artistically and technically. but again, there is still an element of "what I like" in there.

I guess I haven't the ability to study a poem in the same way. Perhaps I lack the education.

Maybe I should stick to photography!

i think poetry is what comes from within wether that be technically put together words to captivate a wide audience or inner private thoughts to help clear the head i think people try and put and live to those invisable expectations of what somethings ment to be, i honestly believe that if something feels right then it is right.. i cant remember where i heard that but i think that could be a good bit of advice maybe lol

    peace and best wishes
