Ack... I need a job bad... a job I can walk to and the only shop hiring in walking distance is Starbucks. I know places like that usually suck, kind of like a fast food place but not right? If you've ever worked at a Starbucks I was wondering how your pay was (you don't have to say). Was it decent? How easy/hard is the job(I'm pregnant and prefer to not have to do heavy lifting)? Anything you can tell me I'd apperciate. Thanks.
i'm trying to get a job at one near me, and know many of the people working there, and everyone seems to like it. (at least, the ones i know) the pay is usually decent, and they have good benefits for that type of place, including medical. it doesnt seem there's any type of heavy lifting involved, but depending on your feelings regarding drugs while pregnant (some people avoid caffeine, as i understand it) you may be uncomfortable with the introductory stuff they have you do before you really get into the regular work...this will include sampling a wide assortment of highly caffeinated beverages and such. at least, they do that for all the employees at this store, and i think its policy for most, if not all stores to do this. also, there's a tip jar, and good discounts
sampling the caffeine doesn't really mean you gotta suck down loads of coffee, though. wine tasting doesn't necessarily mean getting shitfaced. what i would worry about is edema in the legs and lower back agony. you can get a pretty good belly supporter at places like walmart or target, a better one at specialty maternity stores. me, the smell really gets to me when i go in there. but that's just the pregnancy.
i worked at a 2nd cup. not exactly starbucks, but pretty close it was an alright job, cept the boss was an idiot
yeah, i'm sure a lot of it depends on the chemistry of the coworkers and such but it has the potential of being a good job
Never worked at one, but spent entirely too much time at one. Everyone seemed to like it alright. Not really like fast food so much, more of a jovial atmosphere, of course that could quite easily vary store to store, as this one was particularly lax I suppose, or rather evreyone that was there, manager included were just cool.
I worked at Starbucks in 2001 when I was living in CO. It was OK...Took me a couple of weeks to really know what the heck I was doing! But I was paid $7.35 an hour, and we got tips. You know the tip cup? Well, they collect all of the tips that the cup has recieved all week and they count it up, then they divide it down and give you your share based on how many hours you worked and stuff. One week I would get $55, the next I would get $20, it all depended, but that was cool... And I got a free pound of coffee or box of tea every...umm..I wanna say every week, but it might have been every 2 weeks or every month, I really don't remember. And of course you get to drink all of the free Starbucks that you want all day! Mmmm mmmm!!! The people that I worked with were snooty, I guess working at Starbucks somehow makes you better than everyone else. Who knew? I did get along with a few people. I would have liked the job a lot better if I worked with nicer people. As far as heavy lifting, I don't remember having to lift anything. End of day clean-up is the same as anywhere else; sweep, mop, stock, wrap the leftovers, clean the toilets, and get the hell out. I'm sure they would go easy on a pregnant lady anyway. That's all I can remember...that and I loved the apron. I don't know why. And the drinks are fun to make once you get the hang of it! And fun to call out too! "Venti Half-Caf Non-Fat No Foam Caramel Macchiatto is ready!!" It's a good company to work for, honestly. I hope there are nice people at your's. Good luck!!! ...I hope I helped a little....
Service jobs aren't really for me. I don't like jobs that have 'customers'. I don't like the public enough to wait on them. especially for less then $10 an hour. People treat anyone in a service job like an idiot.
mmm I'm coming out of bad job experiance. I need a nice low key part time for now just to make up for a couple bills right now. I was a department manager at a department store and they def abused their workers lol. Just wasn't worth the money anymore. The last straw was I thought I was having a miscarriage after unloading a truck full of heavy boxes and no cared nor offered to find someone to cover my shift till I could find out what was wrong. They had no respect for my limits or what I had originally told them I could work (single moms need notice for these things! lol). I'm looking forward to a nice place with hopefully not a lot of stress. As for someone saying something about the caffiene... I'm not worried about it. Caffiene is ok in moderation like KC said. I don't mind having a sip to sample something but I def won't be chugging coffee because I really don't like the taste anyway.
I'm ok, not much really new. How are you and Kirsten? Has the baby come yet? I'm too excited to hear about it, lol.
oh wow! you were tons of help... all of you. Thank you so much for your responses. I feel a little more confident to apply there now. I was worried it might be something totally different than this. I've actually never went inside the one by my house. Its only been there since the beg. of summer and I don't drink coffee. I looks like a really cute clean place though.
Had to do a Starbucks gig years ago. It was pretty nice-I had a pretty good time too. It was just a stop over though till a better job came thru.
