Is shingles going around anywhere else in the country? I have two friends who don't know each other who have it now. I am just curious if there is a reason a bunch of people my age seem to now be getting it. I had chicken pox but I don't think that matters if it lays dormant in your body then comes back out again later in life as shingles.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this in their area.

Yeah that is a weird coincidence.. but it might be just that? My dad had shingles last year, but he's 60-something and had chicken pox decades ago.

yeah you can get shingles if you had the pox as a child.... the virus never goes away and always lays dormant in the body. i dont know if its going around or a coincedence that you've heard about it more lately though.....

wierd. I had shingles a couple of weeks ago, due to an insane stress level and severe lack of sleep. It's the chickenpox virus, released by a nerve to one particular area of your body. It's not contagious in and of itself, but someone with shingles can pass chickenpox on to someone who's never had chickenpox, including unborn babies (so keep em away from pregnant people!).
oh, and my doc said if a shingle shows up on the tip of your nose, go to ER immediately; the nerve that releases to the tip of the nose can also cause permanent blindness.

Yeah, it's caused by crazy stress. My partner had shingles earlier this year on his face. The doctor was very concerned because it WAS on his eyelid and all surrounding his eye. Thank god it didn't make him go blind.
