I get horrible cramps every month, so each month I become a week-long ibuprofen addict.:& Does anyone know some good natural cures for Aunt Flow?

ok, so far what i have tried and worked is getting on the pill, but I stopped taking it ages ago because i'm not longer sexually active (sadly) and I get a little freaky...but i dont remember suffering from cramps when i was on.
I'm now taking evening primrose oil in 1000mg capsules, one day with a meal, and definitely noticed the difference. last month was really bad, so i started doing some research and found that evening primrose helps with PMS symptoms and helps with cramps (it also benefits your hair, nails and skin) give it a try, it has helped me!
    hope it helps!

My friend has really bad cramps every month which stops her from working, she's bought a magnetic thingy from Avon and says it works, I don't know if it's available in the US though. I'll find out the name for you and let you know :)

i used to get them bad so i went on the pill - but am coming of it soon before i kill someone - hormones are the best lol, i use a cura-heat pad thing - you put it on your abdomen and it's warm and nice, seem's to work quite well, my friend gave me morphine tablet's once, they worked excellent - dont think my doc will give me them though - try the pill though - there are loads and loads, and they make period's lighter as well YAY

I really want to try evening primrose as well, I've heard from so many people that it works really well. I get really bad cramps and am practically paralyzed for the first two days of my period, and nothing seems to help except sex. :&

Simple stretches can really help - but be gentle! One of my favourites is to inflate my yoga ball and lean over it backwards, putting my hands over my head to steady myself. (keep feet flat on the floor) only do it for as long it doesn't hurt too much... it really does help. Also, heat heat heat! I don't know what I would do without my Magic Bag :D

    hi fieldrun
i have found that ibuphrophen can cause stomach ulcers. i had a bad car accident in 1991 and the doctor put me on large amounts of ibuphrophen, it eventually ate a hole in my stomach. now i'm dealing with acid reflux from the ibuphorophen. i used to get terrible cramps too and it turned out that i had endometriosis and had many large cysts in my uteran wall. i eventually had to have a hysterectomy, but i feel so good now. also i use melatonine for any kind of pain. you can get it at any health food store and it is non-abusive to your system and it is a natural sleep inducer too. also soy isoflavones and vitamin e are good to take all the time for good health. i would suggest to be examined by a physician for your bad cramping to make sure everything is alright. i so can relate to you. when i was young every time i had my period, i would be down for about 3 days the pain was so bad. good luck. exercise also helped me and meditation and a hot tub.

Use a real heating pad, not a heat wrap or anything, but a real heating pad.. And excercise works wonders, even a little stretching of your pelvic region..

    --Heating pad.
    --Comfy bed and pajamas.
    --Midol.
Wait until you fall asleep. That's about all I know of.

I get them sometimes. I find that when I'm under a lot of stress during the month, I get horrendous cramps.I think it's my body trying to cleanse itself of all off the stress that's built up during the months or something. Here's what I do:

For a quick fix I do this Yoga (Half Moon Pose or Extended Triangle Pose) position and it provides AMAZING relief for a short period of time afterwards (I have to recommend this book: The Woman's Book of Yoga and Health):

Try to avoid any twisting positions or backward bends during your moon time.

Also, I try to drink a lot of rasberry leaf tea during the month and pre-moon time I drink more than usual. There a yogi tea called "Moon Time Tea" or something like that. That one seems to help with cramps a little.

Lastly, I try to just get extra rest during my moon time. I just take things slowly and try to stay as calm as I can, kind of like meditating or something.

    HTH-

    Lena

Oh yeah, and try to get as much calcium as you need because I hear that helps as well.
