Hate giving sources out, but this is a great point. I personally have thought for awhile now that it will be reinstated within the coming years.

Just because our candidates aren't talking about the draft doesn't mean it's not going to happen.

It might happen. It might not. But no one can say it can't happen. And the way things are going in Iraq, it doesn't look good. We come in, occupy the country. There are uprisings. We bring in more soldiers to control the uprisings. There are MORE uprisings. We bring in even more soldiers to control the uprisings. There are more uprisings. . . JFK didn't send Americans into Nam arching his fingers and saying "A QUAGMIRE! Eeeeeexcellent!" Our soldiers just got stuck over there. Just like our soldiers are stuck in Iraq now, with a possible martial law to boot.

Here is an idea. If you aren't willing to fight for someone elses right to be free, and because it doesn't affect you directly, just leave now? From the way some of you talk you sound as if you hate America already. So what is stoping you?

I know I know, the war isn't justified because it's over oil....Well, think what you want to think, and I will know what I know. Reguardles of what you think the war is about, one thing you can't deny in any possable way is that the Iraqi people are better off sense we have been there. Schools reopened, hospitals operational, girls allowed in school, talk radio shows where people can voice their opinion now without fear of death....the list goes on and on.

So, if you feel that helping your fellow human isn't worth dieing for, and are scared of the possability that you might be called apon, leave now while you still can. I'll fight for you.

No, I don't think it's about oil - directly. I think it's about diverting public attention from other problems, make Bush like he's doing something against terrorism, etc. The shoe fits, and Dubya's wearing it like a chump.

I'm a member of Amnesty International. Yes, I do care about the freedom of others. I just don't think freedom should be delivered down the barrel of a gun.

But you think what you want to think, and I'll do likewise. I'll think of how feeble one's mind has to be for one to waste their time on a hippy forum when they apparently aren't the least bit inclined to non violence or openmindedness.

Thanks for the draft dodging info - I will pass that along to some people.

My question is that the bills ARE there, but they haven't been passed yet. Passing draft bills would kill whoever's in office politically, the war would be even less popular than it already is, and draftees have been said to be lousy soldiers. I can see us running out of soliders if we don't pull out fast enough, but what's the likelyhood of that?

I guess I'm just worried. Unless they pass the bill that sends women and college students - which I don't think will happen untill they run out of men out of college, as college and sexism are the easiest ways of getting congressmen's offspring out of the draft - I won't have to go, but my friends and I are all turning 18 that Spring. I just don't want them to kill people, don't want them commiting sucidide, or comming down with post traumatic episodes. There was a thread back a ways from some moron going "You hippies would love a vietnam". What? We want our friends to fight and die in a political war? We want our friends and lovers to die so we can have some good protests? The movement is cool, but I'd give it up if it ment we could quit delivering freedom through a bomb, which to me isn't freedom at all.

maybe they'll bring back the draft, maybe they'll wont. it would be a political suicide for whoever brings it back, so I doubt they would ever bring back the draft in the form that we are used to it. too many people would become too unrestful, socially. but i'm not worried about it. i'd rather be in jail, or out of the country, then go kill for the Man. so, if anyone's worried, don't sweat it. all you have to do is say no.

read 1984, it really explains where we are headed, and it says that it doesn't matter who, why, or where we are fighting, as long as we are in a state of continual warfare. it said it is the best method of disposing of the excess of production (consumerism) that mankind will soon have. otherwise, people would get too soft, too comfortable, and would become too smart to let people rule them. thats what governments are about, control and power, and the way they stay in power is by keeping people ignorant enough to think that they can't self govern. i mean, if all the peons and wage slaves and common people in the world had the intelligence, they would see that they don't need the ruling power, and it would be total anarchy (no ruler). this, our governments and old cowardly power-hungry evil fascist pigs, fear the most.

so change the world, by educating yourself and gaining knowledge. someone said once, 'knowledge is power'.

There will be no political suicide for Bush if he gets his second term (thus nothing left but a cushy retirement thereafter) and that is why a draft is much more than likely from the very cabal which engineered the PNAC agenda in the first place. A perpetual unwinnable war against a tactic needs a constant supply of fresh disenfranchised youth to further enhance elitest control and bank balances.

Heh, I know I wont be drafted. I have homosexual tendencies, I am flat footed, and I have 'suicidal tendencies.' (Or so I'll tell them on the last one) It ought to be fun.

Tell them you have a rap sheet; you've been convicted of littering. Worked for Arlo Guthrie in "Alice's Restaurant". Of course, you are taking a chance being thrown in with the Mother Rapers and the Father Rapers.:D
