"gay" insults

aaah ok. i've noticed that a lot of the people in this forum have been using the words gay/fag as insults. i'm going to try to sound as "un-preachy" as i can, but please think about what you're saying. by using these words as insults, you are implying that homosexuality is wrong/bad. i dont think most of you agree with this, judging by your liberal political views. i know that "everyone says it" and you don't mean it like that, but please just consider what you're really saying.

 

think thats bad, 2 gay guys get made fun of at my school, all the kids will say things to "fuckin faggots" to "all queers should die". I Know where your coming from and it is wrong to say that. I dont say it myself, and when I do I never actually mean gay lol.

 

I 100% agree...people always say 'thats gay' when really they mean 'thats stupid'...so why not just say 'stupid'...its less offensive

I honestly don't care about offending people, but using the term gay as an insult is so fucking irritating. Unless of course you are using the term gay in a making-fun-of-the-fact-that-some-people-use-the-word-gay-as-an-insult way.

Some people also deserve to be called fag, but not because they are gay. You see, the word fag was awesome before idiots referred to gay people as such.

i think its stupid that people overreact so much. its one thing to use the term 'gay' as a derogatory term, and its another to go to a gay person, and say 'you should die'.

i have nothing against gay people. but that doesnt mean being homosexual in general is a)effeminate, hence, a generic putdown for a male. a straight guy wouldnt pick a fight with a macho homosexual and hence would probably not use gay-derrogatory against a large, masculine gay man.
b)being gay is "queer", it is different, it is against the natural disposition, and hence, a generic put down, just as 'wierdo' or 'freak'.


lets have a look at which derogatory words do not have possibly insulting connotations?

those describing excretion, those describing animals, and those describing body parts in odd places on the body.

'stupid' implies less intelligence or wit or whatever. that is insulting to all the nice, honest, achieving people who arent smart. therefor, what makes it more moral to use than 'gay'?

swear words arent meant to be nice. thats the whole fuckin point. most people who use the word gay use it because its simply a used swear word. everyone loves sex! yet the word 'fuck' is derogatory. saying 'fuck you' in all logical sense is demeaning sex to an unpleasurable thing. however, we use the word simply because of its status, and of course, the sound of hte word. words like 'fuck' and 'shit' and '****' and 'faggot' are expressive, and thats why theyre used.

what matters not is the meaning of a word, but the effect it has in using it. if everyone accepted gays, and as a culture, gay people were seen as no different to straight people, then the term gay would not be a cruse word. however, the use of words like that is to demean someone socially, and thus, swear words are used for their -social- connotations more than their -etmological- connotations.

as well as this, the word faggot -means- a stick, and the word gay -means- happy.

a lot of kids use the word gay without even knowing it means homosexual.


thus in leiu of these factors, complaining about people using the word faggot, or gay, is pointless.


i might add that i never use the terms gay or faggot. (i used to use the term gay but it just seems immature now).

the right thing to do is realise that people who use those terms while conciously aknowleging their meaning as homosexual, and not just blatantly using common insults, are therefor insecure, and less of a man themselves. its something you rise above, not whinge about

Anyway, there's a definate line between gay, and just plain fucking annoying if you ask me though

Example, I have gay friends, my sister has gay friends (Actually how I go introduced to gay people, she's a dancer...both of my sisters...so I've known gay people...as well...people, since I was 5) I'm even in GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) and I will say though...I have a problem with flamboyant gays...

ok, so here's the actual example:
In my Folklore class...there's this kid, Jermaine...he's black, he's gay, he's very open about it...yet not...he won't admit it...but he'll always hit on guys that obviously aren't gay, and he's just generally annoying in the sense that he is a defensive gay guy...
Like today, I was explaining a clip from the Daily Show, to my teacher, about how Christians were saying, "The hurricane hit NO because hundreds of gays were going to have a pride parade that day." and I was going to continue to explain about how John Stewart points out, that the French Quarter, where they were going to have the parade...was NOT flooded, so god doesn't hate gays...Just gay adjacent

But the second I said the words, Christian, Gay, and Hurricane Jermaine interupted the whole damn thing and ruined the joke for everyone...which sucked considering everyone was listening...

So basically, he acts like he represents the entire gay community and just ASKS for trouble...where as...

Example 2:
My friend Brandon, he is the president of GSA...he is openly gay, he tells people he is gay...he doesn't give a shit...fuck with him, he'll beat the shit out of you just like anybody else...
Someone gives him shit in class, there's 5 people who normally queer-bash standing up for him...Anyone is like, "Brandon, I will not fuck you." to put him on the spot or anything like that if they catch him just GLANCE at him, he will say, "That's alright, I only looked because your repulsive face caught my attention" or something along those lines

So basically...I don't have a problem with gay people...but I have a problem with annoying people who use being gay as a gimmick to make friends, yet don't expect to get shit from people...yet I would NEVER make fun of them for being gay...but I will tell them to shut the fuck up and quit being so annoying.

I think this thread is stupid, I call shit gay all the time, I have homosexual friends, gay does not mean someone who likes the same sex as themselves to me, gay means overyly happy or just stupid. So this thread is gay.
