Has anyone here read The House of Leaves? I think it may be one of the most amazing books, not best books, but amazing. It is the exact definition of an experimental novel, and there are so many layers too it, in the book and that the writer put into the real world too just to confuse people! Plus Poe made a CD about it called "Haunted", not my favourite CD by far, but still cool. So has anyone? I'd love to start an awesome thread about it here, so speak up!
i read it about 4 years ago and i remember enjoying it a lot though i don't think i remember enough to have good conversation about it. it's a very interesting book and i've certainly never read anything like it.
Well I am glad someone out there has read it. I do suggest it though. or just check ou the website: www.houseofleaves.com
I must admit I am intrigued. I've checked the site, ghandiwars and its fascinating. I also looked up the book on Amazon and I think I'm going to be buying it. Can you tell me, is it easy reading, or am I going to bang my head against the wall? Is there a site where they have a page or two to sample?
I don't know about the sample thing- but you can't get a normal page of this book. The style and layouts of how pages are printed changes a lot by chapter. I'll tell you the first few chapters are hard! But once you get passed the two hard chapters (The one on mazes, and the one of the physics of echoes) it gets going and it is a breeze and so enjoyable to read! So, struggle through that first fourth (its worth it) and you'll get the last 3/4ths down easy.
I wrote a piece about it when I was a student. I also linked it in with his sister's cd (Poe) and how they relate to each other etc. It was interesting to hear how Poe's music reflected their father's death, and to read the result of her brothers emotions towards that same issue.
Awesome! Once you start reading, I would love for you to post on here again to hear what you think. The House of Leaves.
