Manufacturing & Technology News just relesed a story about the Bush administration blocked the release of a report critical of outsourcing American jobs before the November 2004 election. When it finally did release the report it had been watered down to a 12 page report, included none of the original research and instead contained data gathered by the very industries who are doing the outsourcing.
I don't give a shit if coorporations outsource. Let them. As long as they outsource the shitty jobs and insource the better paying jobs I will stay satisfied. Many foreign companies have manufacturing plants and even HQ's in the US...so i dont think outsourcing is gonna make a whole lot of difference in the availability of jobs seeing as i can search on the internet or open the newspaper and find literally thousands of jobs...
That is correct, it is really impossible to outsource the janitors, the retail sales workers, burger flippers and such, so unfortunately it is the crappy jobs that are staying while many white collar jobs like programming, engineering, project management, can easily be done overseas. It should also be noted, there is no incentive for foriegn companies to insource good jobs, why pay an American 50K a year when you can get someone in India for 15K. Seriously, so what if we are the most productive workforce on earth when a company can hire 3 people to do the work of one American and pay those 3 people less than half what the American is making. da420 needs to wake up, unless he is in a hands on service oriented career, it is only a matter of time.
manufacturing and tech service jobs are being outsourced, i realize this. We are moving more to a consumer based economy, that alone creates jobs lost by outsourcing. We need people in stores selling the items, and transporting them, storing them, etc. Many foreign companies have thier HQ here in the states, does this not create jobs? The answer is, yes it does create jobs. And, they are alot higher paying jobs than those that are being outsourced. And in these HQ they also need janitors, service people, secretaries, etc. Toyota and Hyundai both are manufacturing in the US, providing jobs. As fast as jobs are being outsourced, there are jobs being insourced as well. I don't know it seems pretty logical to me, seems like I have a fair grasp on what is happening...maybe i do need to wake up, but I am just speaking out my opinion from my point of view from what I have read. I can wake up and see literally THOUSANDS of jobs every morning when I open the Classified in my local newspaper, so how someone cannot have a job is beyond me....btw I work for Cingular, i take technical phone calls on the phone on tech issues with data issues on peoples phone...i went to college, and if my job was outsourced I am fairly confident I could find a job elsewhere because I gave myself the tools to work in many different kind of fields...
Well I don't know what to tell you. I am glad you live in a prosperous community with no unemployment. This is not really the norm, I know many people who would love to have the oppronunities you obviously have. Not long ago a Walmart opened up in Oakland CA, they got 11,000 applications for just 400 jobs. Mind you, this is a city where unemployment is below the national average. These people obviously want to work and I can not see these poeple wanting to work at Walmart because of the high pay and benefits. You are very lucky.
