CCR or The Grateful Dead?

There's no comparison really - look at everything the Dead did and everything that crystalized around the band and the Deadheads - CCR - I'm surprised they're still remembered even.

 

exactly! This has got to be the craziest poll ever. CCR had a few good songs but NOTHING like the breadth of the prolific Grateful Dead. CCR did not create any lasting legacy in music whereas the dead created the entire jam band genre that is leading this neo hippie movement we are now seeing.

 

The Dead were/are massive. Like a kind if true independent musical and cultural entity. CCR were ok, but yes - this is a pretty pointless kind of comparison to make.
In fact, I can't think of anyone really comparable to the Dead - the Dead thing is really a unique thing. That's not to say there aren't things I like personally just as much - Dylan for instance - but I think if you're going to compare band a with band b then you need to get bands who are of similar idiom and comparable achievement/longevity/cultural influence etc.

 

I do enjoy CCR, but I love The Grateful Dead.

 

no competition, the DEAD handsdown! CCR is great, but they don't even begin to amount to the GRATEFUL DEAD!!
