was shocked that I see no Pete Seeger thread here, so starting one.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Seeger He was a great influence as you'll see if you check him out.
He's truly a pioneer. My favorite songs written by Pete Seeger are " Where Have All The Flowers Gone" and "Turn, Turn, Turn".
I kind of freaked out this morning, listening to Public Radio and they played a Seeger song, and I heard, "died last week" but I guess it was Seeger's promoter of some sort, may he RIP. both were born in 1919, pretty old. thanking them, and anyone else, for their contributions to the folk music scene. It was definitely a catalyst for music that came later. http://www.latimes.com/news/obituaries/la-me-leventhal7oct07,1,7934784.story?coll=la-news-obituaries
Ya Pete Seeger is an AWESOME musician. I found a book that he did of American Ballads in my grandmothers basement. Quite an awesome book. He knows a lot of old labor songs and songs dating back to the Civil War. There was a few Woody Guthrie songs in there too. It had a different way to play "house of the rising sun" then i had been playing. I've played it like that ever since. Ya I hope to see him live before he passes away, he actualy went to school where a kid i know gos now. its like 15 minutes away from here. He did a free concert there once..... itd be cool if he did again.
