hey people... i am doing literary theory at uni atm...and some questions and thought i liked really spurred me to get more ideas from you guys....your views....disagreements and the like...please all be kind to one another and have a discussion and debate rather than slanging match.....kewlies 1. no author owns the meanings or readings of his or her text....discuss 2. The poet as poet has no identity (Keats 1958, 1:387): he or she lives, and lives on, in the strabge space of writing. your thoughts thank you plaeeeease lol roly.xxx
i read once, i think it was schleiermacher that said that you cannot ever find objective meaning in text, but rather that all textual understanding occurs as a subjective interpretation on behalf of the reader. i dunno tho, i think that prehaps the meaning develops as a part of authorship, but in a lot of cases text's develop, look at the biblical gospels, they can be interpretted in a variety of ways, that may or may not be right, and they do not place any importance on what the author wished to express, but instead seek to give subjective interpretation, or even objective albeit church based interpretation. The auther creates the 'original' meaning, but the meaning is always subjective to the reader. also look at Homer, the illiad and odyssey have taken on a life of their own, and no one even knows if homer was indeed a real person! so authorship in this case is thrown completely out, but rather that the texts own themselves
reading this may help you a bit, or atleast take your ideas into a new area http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermeneutics
cheers...much appreciated....havent read it properly yet....but cant wait! awww thanks i really appreaciate ur thinking and effort
hello everyone, i am a free-lance writer, mainly of political articles. i am also writing a book of poetry and my life story. i like your questions, roly, good for thought. writing is such a great theraputic expression for me and i learn so much about myself whenever i write poetry or my free-lance articles. hippiewise
hmmmm......but surely when contemplating such things as theories etc does it not take the theraputic nature out of wrting for you? just wondering...i know it does for me...
