Me and my friend are playing at a place called the Cavern this Friday (I kid you not) and I was wondeirng if anybody's got any suggestions for ad-libs. We're playing six Beatles songs, I'll list them below in case they help you with ideas. I have a mind of quicksilver and I've come up with enough things to sustain us, but any suggestions are welcome. FIRST SET 1. Back In The USSR 2. Drive My Car 3. Revolution 4. A Day In The Life 5. Help! 6. I'm So Tired SECOND SET 1. Magical Mystery Tour 2. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds 3. Norwegian Wood 4. Eleanor Rigby 5. Paperback Writer 6. We Can Work It Out Well?
do you mean stage patter? and is that a set, or just the Beatles selections? (I'd not end on So Tiired: leave 'em rocking)
Yes, stage patter. And I'm So Tired does have a rather loud ending. And yes, that's the set. We can improvise if we need more material.
After you've played 3 or 4 Beatles songs, have somebody come up to the stage and hand you a folded piece of paper.Open it,pretend to read it,and announce "Ok,we've had a request to play ANYTHING BY THE BEATLES."
Wonderful idea! We're gonna do that. Thanks, Bluesbilly. I like your style. Oh, and I think they're giving us another set!
The show didn't turn out all that great. We spent about fifteen minutes trying to get the mics working. My mic worked and the other one didn't, then the stand was in the way of the drums, then we had to use a different mic, etc, etc. So once it was finally set up, we started playing, got the first five songs done before closing time. The other musicians cancelled, and it was a really slow night, so they closed early. There were two people in the audience, and the woman who runs the place. So we played five songs for minimal applause from three people. But, we'll be back. Apparently there were a lot of parties going on tonight, so that was where everyone was instead of at the Cavern listening to Beatles tunes. Darn shame.
