I was wondering if there is a cheap and easy way to make a homemade grinder that works half-decent. If not, where can I go to buy a good electric grinder for really cheap?
I always just break it up with my fingers- is it that much better to use a grinder or anything? Does it make that much difference?
Depending on the grinder it does make a difference. A good grinder like my friend's Space Case breaks the bud up into nice fluffy bits which pack a bowl oh so nice. My cheap grinder on the other hand just kinda breaks it all up into small bits. Both of which smoke different from hand broken herb in blunts and bowls. Plus with your fingers you get all the 'crystals' and whatnot all over them, where-as with the Space case that has a screen to a bottom section, most of it falls down and collects into Kief... delicious delicious kief...
lol thanks digitaldj but I already have 3 pairs. I want something that can collect kief, and i dont have to work manually.
for large batches you can probably use an electric coffee grinder (not one actually used for coffee) but realize it will be noisy. the consistancy you get with a grinder IS very different than what you get using fingers or scissors. the only time a grinder REALLY makes a huge positive difference, though, is when you're rolling a joint. now that i have a grinder, i can't think of ANY reason to break up my pot by hand for a joint unless it's got a hell of a lot of seeds (grinders are indescriminate and will grind the seeds just as easily as the pot, and then it will be tough to seperate them....i usually try to pick almost all the seeds out before grinding, as well as any thick stems) but yeah, if you break it up by fingers, it will usually be a lot more dense and if you roll it too tight it wont smoke very well. if you use a grinder, it will be very light and fluffy, and will make rolling a joint easier to do without ripping the paper, and it will smoke more smoothly and more evenly (it helps reduce runs) it really isn't too important though, you don't NEED a grinder, they're just a convenience. any headshop should have some, and you should be able to find a cheap one for five bucks or less.
I'm just looking for the cheapest (half-decent) electric grinder I can get my hands on. Me and my friends have been smoking joints rather than anything else lately so I think it's a good idea because fingers and scissors can't cut it fine enough and we always have a bumpy shitty joint with lots of air. Off-topic, I've noticed that most people just roll their joint up so the paper looks like a cigarrette, but I was thinking (and doing) that twisting it tight is a better idea... Does it really make a difference, and which one is better?
i dont like joints that are too twisted, though a little tapering will help keep the weed in the joint and not your mouth. a twist at the lighting end helps make it more portable. if you twist the ends too much it will be really hard to get good airflow, though. an electric grinder is unnecessary and will not be cheap. if you want something cheap, just get a normal handheld grinder. an electric grinder will not work better at all, just faster if anything.
This is the one I'm about to buy... Should I? http://proctor-silex.com/products/coffeemaker_accessories/ It's only 8 bucks canadian... thats like 6.50 american.
eh, i wouldnt, but thats just me. for one, it wont likely work as well as a grinder with all the pegs and stuff, probably just chop it up a lot. also, for a coffee grinder like that you'll need to use a decent amount of pot for it to work. don't expect to just grind up a joint's worth of weed in a coffee grinder.
I actually ended going with a more expensive one. Since the blades on the first one are shaped like shit, it won't cut as good as the one I bought. It came to $22.99 total at Home Hardware if anyone is wondering. It's come Braun one. I can't wait for my birthday on November 11th! I'm gonna buy $200 worth (Can someone please tell me what the name is for $200 worth of MJ).
