Dear People: I was wondering if anyone could tell me about any remote place with mountains, rivers, etc. I could go to in Canada. I want to leave this country and move to Canada. I have had enough. Alot of abuse here and people don't care. Many have all they went and everything they want, but no compassion. They are heartless. Any communes, farms, or other housing in Canada? Thank you for your time and any reply and informtion. Sincerely, Todd DeFrank
There's alot of farms in the prairie provinces, like Alberta, Saskatchewan or Manitoba...but for the communes...I think the best place to go to is Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia. I live about 6 hours away from there, it's beautiful! It's a really groovy place to live.
There are communes of sorts sprinkled all over Canada, but from a recent hitchhiking trip I went on, south-eastern BC seems the best. Admittedly though, I went west from Ottawa, so I can't say anything about Nova Scotia, though I've heard lots of good stuff about it... But as far as BC goes, towns like Nelson aren't communes, but they feel pretty darn hippyish.
i live in northern alberta.. but the best place I can think of is Gibsons, BC.. its on the island or a island/> anyways.. it rocks but B.c s pritty nice. I dono where you are from but i went to Washington and Idaho last year and i really like it there... peopel were friendly and such. but always remeber don't Run from problems
I wondered all over the country as a young fellow. Everywhere I went; there I was, so I ended up living just outside of a small town in Arkansas. Good as any, better than some. People are the same everywhere; you just have to find the good ones. However, I here the folks north of us are fine people so I wish you luck. Hope you stay on this site, lots of good people here.
Nelson BC. I haven't been, but I have friends who live there and say that the whole Nelson BC area is Hip-Heaven.
a cpl people mentioned Cambria when I was in San Luis Obispo last year. I would have checked it out but the first ride i got on my way out of SLO was going all the way to Mendicino so I skipped it. Think I'll go see next time I'm down that way. thanks for the tip Duncan.
Hi there...I too, live in a small town, (really small) in Arkansas....it's a great place...good luck in Canada, but actually you can find what you are looking for in the Ozarks....
hey hippie small town, don't blame you at all. i love canada and would love to live there. i do know some peeps in canada. a great dude that has his own website in toronto, maybe you could write to him and ask his opinion of a cool town to live in: http://www.themusicalrevolution.com tell him that (angel) sent you, POWER TO THE PEACEFUL
I have traveled all over Canada and I have the same feeling as you. I wish I could move there. I am fed up with the U.S. too and the Canadians are so friendly and easy going. I have been to Ontario, Alberta (Canadian Rockies this summer and Banff), Brunswick,British Columbia, etc. Canada is the most beautiful place. I wish I could live in Banff, its a beautiful city and there are lots of jobs there. I also liked Alaska but its way too remote to find jobs there unfortunately unless you want to work in the Denali national park. I love Canada, but I will say that Montana is absolutely gorgeous and there is alot of space there and the people in most parts that I have met have been really friendly.
Jan, you're right about the Ozarks being great. I fell in love with those hills and the people in them. I lived in Mt. View for about a year, and drove to school at Arkansas College (Batesville). I remember some people had problems finding water on their land and hiring water witches.
I still have faith in this country that we can vote out the hate mongers and stop big business from running this country. I'm probably just dreaming, but this is a huge country with a lot of wide open spaces. I love it in Colorado and would even entertain retirement here, but the cold weather here is cold, but summers here are very nice, and the concert scene here is great! I have thought about Mexico, and am hearing many positive things about that country. I Still want to believe that we can beat the oil companies and the big business that have helped this country at one time, but it seems that now they and the religious right are hindering the progression of stem cell research and the development of hydrogen fuel cell technology. Leaving this country won't make the problem go away, leave if you must, but do it for the right reasons.
rumblerod, totally agree with you that we can turn the country around and vote out the hate mongers. we did it in the 70's and got rid of nixon and his evil group, we can do it with bush and his bushwackers too. stay strong and never give up or in. POWER TO THE PEOPLE hippiewise angel
heh Heh. Bring some $ with you. Dude, those Canadian customs officials have WAY too much free time. But that's another story. (If you're a girl, I recommend not wearing a bra as you go through customs. That totally grosses them out. ) Um, I agree with others that yours is not necessarily a problem of location. You're feeling restless, though, and I certainly can understand that. I had a fantastic time island hopping in British Columbia about...sheesh...12 years ago, I guess. Salt Spring Island had a little thing going called Y Camp. (Bore no resemblance to A camp.) Sweet little place. There were other islands that were totally hip, but you literally had to be invited to visit them. One such island was Horsnby Island. The shops were bulit into/around the trees, like an ewok treehouse town. Fantastic. Don't show up uninvited, though. If you're unattached and can drift a little, go to Circling Dawn natural foods store in Vancouver. You'll hook up with anything going on in BC there. I also went to a sweet hemp concert thing in the Kootenays. Met Jack Herer. The Kootenays was a little isolated for my taste.
I would hesitate before moving to Canada. I have heard rumors that the Canooks worship the PAGAN BEAVER GOD! (His likeness is on the nickel!) I also have it in good faith that there is also a significant sub-cult of moose-idolaters! Scary, eh not?
