Why is it that if a guys sleeps around he's considered awesome but if a girl does the same she's a slut???
Guy sleeps around and he is awesome because you think he is, try thinking of him as a 'manslut', then he will be a 'manslut'.
Why don't you consider a man who sleeps around a slut? Especially if you choose to use that word in reference to women who sleep around? And, no, people I tend to associate with don't even necessarily refer to either as a slut. If a person is screwing around to get attention, to get free meals or gifts, or whatever, then they're a slut. If they're screwing around just cuz they enjoy sex, then who cares?
RE: Why is it that if a guys sleeps around he's considered awesome but if a girl does the same she's a slut??? In this day and AIDS that's no longer true.
because there is a general double standard in society concerning women and their sexuality. historically speaking, females were encouraged not to be sexual because chastity and "purity" were highly valued (by whom? society) also, during the mid 19th century, women did not have effective birth control, so more pressure there to remain celibate and have sex with reproduction purposes mainly. anyway, the creation of the pill and other birth control methods have freed women from remaining sexually inactive as well as gaining new rights that didnt restricted them from enjoying their sexuality as they pleased. sadly, most of the misconceptions adopted in the past are still relevant in the minds of some people, and across cultural tendencies. but its only down to women to change those misconceptions. Sisters calling other sisters sluts doesnt help women's liberation from this stereotype. Its sad.
I agree..I know plenty of girls who have 'been around' and are not ashamed but I know just as many who have not and will not hesitate to call other girls sluts. I think that its a problem among females more than males. I think if a guy sleeps around its no big deal to brag about it..but I cant be the only one who has heard a group of guys talk about another guy and talk abotu how they couldnt belive he hooked up with a certain girl. I think alot of the problem is females talking about each other...none of my guys friends have ever called me a slut or skank or anythign liek that but I have heard it from more females that I can count (that made sense in my head)
I don't understand that either. I've had my share of sexual partners. I guess that makes me a slut. Oh, well. Better to be a slut than someone who never got any!
Well, one could argue that women generally decide when and where and if they will have sex with a guy. Men generally have to earn a woman's trust, attraction and affection before they can get some. Again - generally - it's just easier for a reasonably attractive woman to get laid by SOMEONE (though maybe not the particular guy they're crushing on at the time) because she'll always have a large selection of willing horndog guys to choose from. Not necessarily so with men, even reasonably attractive ones. With women pretty much able to dispense sex at will, it might not reflect well on their character if they go to bed without taking the time to allow a guy to first earn their trust, attraction and affection. And if they make a habit of doing this regularly, more's the reflection on their character. Yes, some people just like sex a lot, but honestly who DOESN'T like sex a lot? The percentage of the population that is completely asexual is pretty small. But most people can exhibit restraint and are selective about who they decide to sleep with and more importantly why they're sleeping with that person - or with anybody, for that matter. Those who don't practice this restraint - regardless of gender - are sluts. The fact that a guy's homies will be hooting and hollering if he gets laid speaks more to the fact that guys usually have to put a bit of work into wooing a girl before that happens - hence, among guys, it's a cause for celebration when it happens. From my obesrvation, women's girlfriends also usually celebrate when one of them is getting sex, but usually because it means they've found a guy WORTH having sex with. Among some circles of guys, if they got laid just ... "because", it's seen as "pimp" because MOST guys have to work for it. And if he didn't actually go through that whole earning process, he either duped the girl into having sex or she wasn't very selective when it comes to partners. But likewise if a guy makes a habit of duping girls into sex or going to bed with easy women, yeah, other women and even his boys are probably going to consider him a bit of a slut.
well, the "problem" with female promiscuity was really a matter of property rights. men didn't want to gather up all their assets and have them passed on to someone else's children, therefore he had to keep a tight rein on his ladies reproduction.
