It's acceptable in the RLD at night and in the parks. Otherwise if you're discrete you'll be OK. A pipe makes it easier as it doesn't leave a smoke trail between hits. It's generally bad form if you smoke around old people and kids.
Larry is right. The RLD zone is OK to wander around with a joint, I see it all the time, correction, I smell it all the time. LOL But when it comes to the main high-street shopping precincts with the big stores and general shoppers and families then it's a bit taboo. It's just a case of respect and common sense.
I have no problem walking around London with a joint as long as I'm sensible and I have never had a problem on my visits to Amsterdam doing the same but it's a question of discretion, no? Toking on a fat smoking reefer is not advisable anywhere but smoking something that could quite easily be a ciggy in a discrete fashion won't get you in trouble. As someone already said, have respect. My personal impression is that the Dutch are a very liberal people and as long as you're not in their face or doing anyone harm, you can do as you wish. I'll be proved wrong by getting arrested soon I know it.....
ya thats about right. its ok to have a spliff walkin around the 'touristy' areas. but wouldnt walk down the posh parts with a joint. there are loadsa coffeeshops, but you know sometimes you want one for the walk somewhere. as long as your a little sneaky about it. and yes its fine in the park. ive never had a problem doing it anyway.
