if you go to tesco you will see bags of salad flown in from places like nigeria think of the fuel used on those planes . growing your own food is healthy and I think the food tastes much better if you dont have a garden one option is to get a allotment here is a list of councils where you can find out about allotments if they dont at present have any lobby them to provide more http://www.selfsufficientish.com/councilsaj.htm how do you feel about gardening ?
We are really lucky to live backing on to one of the smaller allotment sites in Norwich.........sooo yes of course we have an allotment . How do I feel about gardening? Well in the words of Arthur Smith: "If you want to be happy for a short time, get drunk; happy for a long time, fall in love; happy forever, take up gardening."...
this is a good idea I recently saw greenhouses made out of old 2 litre plastic bottles http://www.sci-scotland.org.uk/greenhouse.html http://www.sci-scotland.org.uk/images/GH_interior-toms.jpg http://www.sci-scotland.org.uk/sloped_roofs.php
wooooooooooo well dont take on to much at once what with your other stuff but I think it could be a good thing you need to do a little bit now and then . and hoe when you dont see weeds generally its better to have something growing all the time as it gives less space for the weeds . if you get one we should have a digging and clearing party
now is the time to care for your garden tools, if they are rough sand handles smooth with sandpaper, then oil with boiled linseed oil . use a wire brush or emery paper and get the rust off heads you could paint the metal with hammerite . a good habit to get into is never put away tools dirty make a little wooden scraper and hang it up by your shed door . and use it to clean off soil also get a big box and keep that inside your shed door fill it up with sand and add to the sand waste oil, and before you put away tools stab them into the box a couple of times so that they have a coating of oil . keep tools dry and ideally off the floor . when you buy tools buy good makes generally I like british or american spear and jackson, bulldog, stanley, marples, sorby, estwing, plumb . older tools if a good make are some of the best and if well looked after should last several life times
My council won't let me submit my form the planks!! So I'll have to download the form on someones pc who has a printer
