"homophobic"

I want to know why people who don't like gay people are automatically classed as being irrationally afraid of gay people (homophobic)


first off I am certain that there is a decent number of people who don't like them but aren't afraid of them


then secondly, what if someone has a rational reason to be afraid of the concept of homosexuality?

say they were raped, or have some other rational reason


I don't see why this is the word we use



we have the word mysoginist for people who hate women, why don't we have a similar words for gay people?



Note: this is a purely etymological question, it has nothing to do with my feelings towards gay people, frankly I have no problem with it and even encourage it in that more children are adopted because of it which is a wonderful thing, not to mention alan turing pwns....

 

Well the term homosexual is a bit of an odd word anyway.

Homos is Greek, the -sex part is Latin.

Some thought it should have been isosexual....

 

yeah, homophobic\hydrophobic too, all odd words, but still it is what it means in america at this time, and I bristle somewhat every time someone says as if they were braver and manlier that someone is homophobic.....

I mean shit, ding the person on what they are, don't have all this ambiguous bullshit

 

its more likely that a homophobic person is secretly harbouring/denying homosexual urges themselves. ive read a few reports on experiments testing this theory.

now, more than 50% of this country is against giving gay folk the right to marry.....

not saying it's a rational half, not saying it's a sane half, but more than half

now not even kinsey with his ass fucked numbers felt that that percentage of society was even remotly homosexual

 

you would develop your own personal taste and read a book on colour theory.....
