Worldview: The overall perspective from which one understands and interprets the world. A collection of beliefs about life and the universe held by an individual or a group. Everyone has a worldview, you cannot escape the need to hold one. There are potentially as many different worldviews as there are different people, but when a shared worldview is held by a number of people a religion is created. So whether you stand alone with your worldview, or you share a common worldview with others, lets compare. In this thread you can use your worldview to answer 3 fundamental questions: 1. Where did we originate from? 2. What is the source of evil/suffering in the world? 3. How do we overcome this source of evil/suffering? Please keep your answers to the above questions so quick and easy comparison can be made. Thanks to all who participate with sincerity
1. Creation - One God created all that exists, including life, and God is seperate from what God created. 2. Human rebellion against the loving rule of God over all life. Humans have rejected the sovereignty of their creator over them, therefore we are left to rule the world our own way. Ruling the world our own way leads to all evil and suffering because by rejecting God's rule we have become inherently sinful (bad). 3. By ending our attempt to rule our own lives and entering back into relationship with God; submitting to God's Lordship over all life. By doing this, through Jesus, we transform our sinful nature and can live in harmony with God and each other.
1. Now, which is everything and nothing. All times and no times. 2. The source of evil/suffering is ourselves, because within our minds and spirit we create conflict. 3. We overcome evil and suffering by learning there was nothing to overcome in the first place. It was manifested by us. Beyond the perception of the mind, all is one. We overcome evil and suffering by understanding ourselves, beyond judgement and labeling. When there is no differentiation, how can there be conflict? I have nothing to battle, merely something to suggest.
Everyone has a world view, but in many it may not be very clearly articulated. The problem with what you say is that not all world views are at all religious, even though shared by millions - scientific materialism for one. Also, it's really only opinion you can hope to get back from people if you ask about questions like 'where did we come from'. Anyway, here's my answers. 1.- We came out of infinity 2. - ignorance is the root of evil 3. - spiritual awakening is the way to put an end to evil.
1. Where did we originate from? I, personally, am not really sure. I trust that evolution is how we came to be what we are, but as far as how it all originated...speculation is fun (I do it quite frequently), but I am not going to pretend to know. 2. What is the source of evil/suffering in the world? Life. Like my father always said, life isn't fair. I don't believe in god or karma. Life is random. The good and bad things outside our control that happen to us in life are completely random and subjective, one person's evil or suffering is not always another's. Sure, society has a general concensus as to what is good or bad, but there are no absolutes in this area, and society is constantly changing it's defining terms on what is acceptable, good, and bad. 3. How do we overcome this source of evil/suffering? We don't. I am a humanitarian, and I think every effort should be made to allow all humans the best life possible, but I am under no delusions and know that utopia is unachievable. It's a nice thought, but no real "heaven" exists (although I can understand why people like the idea). Well, there's my perspective everyone! BTW, this is a great idea for a thread. It is always nice to be able to see from someone else's point of view - we can all learn a lot outta this!
In this thread you can use your worldview to answer 3 fundamental questions: 1. Where did we originate from? I don't pretend to know. Like Sera, I spend a lot of time speculating, though. 2. What is the source of evil/suffering in the world? Well, what is 'good' and what is 'evil'? I believe the source is ignorance, and where you still suffer you are simply still ignorant. 3. How do we overcome this source of evil/suffering? To overcome ignorance, we must gain some truthful knowledge. If we change our perception of the thing, the thing to us changes. Again, I would speculate, but could never claim to fully know; after all, I certainly have yet to overcome suffering in my routine life! Please keep your answers to the above questions so quick and easy comparison can be made.
1 - I don't know - but science is slowley unlocking this question. The latest theory of *everything* - known as M-Theory (an advancement on String Theory) states that our universe is one of many, each contained in membrains, and that new universes, with diffrent laws of physics, etc.. are being created all the time, as these membrains bounce off each other. From there is a question of evolution as lesser cells evolved into greater ones, and fnially into the universe around us. (Multiple universes? Fantasy surely? But think of it this way, 100 years ago, the idea of going into space was nothing but fantasy) 2 - To sum it up in the phrase - shit happens! The problem with the world is that it's made up of so many diffrent people - each with their os background and culture - that there is bound to be clashes. The interesting thing however is that what one person classes as bad/evil, another might class as good. 'Evil' itself is nothing more than a human concept to try and explain the world around us - but it's a flawed idea as there is no one unique evil - everyone's ideas of evil is diffrent. 3 - again, I don't know... maybe to try and promote tollerance between diffrent people's ideas - and everyone working towards the concept that (and this is one of my own) "everyone with the *ability* to help - has a *responsability* to help". It's only by working togther that we can solve the world's problems. (PS, wow, I'm the only person that's not suggested god)
