Has anyone got any tips for Coffeeshop etiquette? Im traveling to the Netherlands for the first time and whilst im not going there just to get stoned im definately going to be checking out a few coffeeshops.
Congrats on your upcomin' trip synth! And welcome to the Forum. In terms of etiquette, I would say just treat people as you would want to be treated. Some staff are assholes and some are cool. Just play it by ear and if someone gives you poor service or attitude then roll onto the next shop. There are too many to waste your hard earned bucks with a shite experience. Check out CS Amnesia for the epitomy of great gear and service. If you've got any specific questions beyond this, free to elaborate. If not, have a great trip. Ain't nothin' like the first time.
Ummm, the only thing I can think of in addition to Ictricity's comments is to perhaps refrain from wearing a hat or other headwear/hood when you enter a cafe - some have signs now explicitly stating they should not be worn, and although I've never run into the problem myself a few of my friends have been politely asked to take them off. Something else I've encountered is people being told they have to buy a drink, I always tend to myself anyway so again it's not something that's happened to me but I have seen it happen. I am sure other members here will let us know if I'm overstating this but why wait to be asked?! Enjoy your trip!
No, so if someone slobbers all over it, you MUST accept without wiping. It would be considered impolite.
LOL, don't you just hate it when you meet someone and they roll a nice joint but they end up being one of those people who slobber all over the tip making it soggy and wet, YUK. lol
just to add some more extra friendly advice. Don't expect to wave a camera around, not everybody likes being photographed. Always inspect the buds before buying making sure they weigh the same stuff infront of you. Don't expect to be able to handle the buds before buying them, you'll be allowed to smell them though. Leave a tip if the dealer has been helpful, friendly or if you borrow a bong or use their ciggy papers. Always leave a tip if you come across table waiter/waitress service. Don't expect to enter a coffeeshop, smoke weed you bought elsewhere without buying a token gesture drink. Some dealers are complete and utter twats, just swivel on your heals and go elsewhere not causing a scene. I like to return my glass/cup to the bar counter when I leave the shop, it's always welcomed with a warm smile. Don't be loud, obnoxious or annoying, remember, enter peacefully leave quietly, people live there. If you look or are underage you will be asked for ID, which is absolutely fine by me. Don't expect to camp out for hours in a coffeeshop without buying the occasional token drink. My biggest gripe is people with very annoying mobile phone ring tones, but what can you do.? Enjoy your stay, just don't pass out or have a whitey, I've seen people fall off bar stools, knock over drinks/tables and someone even piss themselves. Space food takes a while to work and I very rarely see people high on other drugs in coffeeshops like acid, E, coke or heroin but you'll see plenty of pissed people.
I've seen a punter passed out in Dolphins, he threw up all over himself as well, and his mates left him there for a few minutes (he was like with 10-12 of 'em) by himself, until someone came and got him. That was fun seeing him climb up the few stairs out of there- I think he may have spilled his drink over himself too- not piss.
Yeh, I've seen a fair few myself, sadly it's mostly UK people who drink like theres no tomorrow, it's bizarre stuff. LOL
People chucking all over themselves is a very British preserve, you can see that most nights in most cities all over the Island, so it's not that much of a surprise to see it abroad.... So yeah, don't do that getting sick, puking on people and being bad... hopefully that's advice you didn't need! If you're used to drinking and smoking then go for it, if you're not then this may not the best place to experiment. If it's your first time then at least have some memories by not going too hardcore - go and have the lost weekend if that's your style; but I figure from your question that it's not. It will depend on where you stay and what you want to do. Wherever you stay just ask, tell people what you sort of atmosphere you're looking for or where they can recommend. It's more likely that way that you'll find a place with an etiquette you're comfortable with. But there's also lots of experience in these boards from what I've got to understand so say where you're staying and I have no doubt you'll be inundated with suggestions.
also to add one small point to a thread full of good suggestions.... while I in know way suggest limiting the "excitement" of your evening, the Dutch tend to be quickly bothered by "loud obnoxious" people. just act like a true stoner with a brain and manners and you will go along way vacationing in Amsterdam! LOL
Hi I am going to Amsterdam in November and also plan on lots of partying. I just read about Greenhouse where they have Hawaiian Haze . Anyone ever try it?
usualy any good pot with the word "haze" in it is nice smoke the "grey haze" at the grey area cs was one of my fav.s have fun peace
Be cool and polite, and realize the employees are there everyday, have to deal with stoned and drunk and, very likely many, many rude tourists (and some of the locals in the same condition) and do your best. Order at the counter if they don't appear to be doing table service, go to the weed counter, get what you need, and if you're staying for a long time, buy another round of beverage (or two). I always clear my table when I leave too. Esp when they're busy, they appreciate it. And tip the servers if they've been helpful (or even just decent). I guess it's pretty much common sense. But I've seen a lot of people act like total asses and be very demanding to the busy staff. Enjoy!
Haze and haze crosses are wonderful and I must admit Hawaiian Haze is a favorite. Very soft / fruity flavor with a strong sativa wave of intoxicating THC laced smoke, DROOLING
also, waiters and waitresses dont really like giving you water (unless its bottled. and we all know nobody buys water when you can get it free from the tap) they can be a bit pissy about it actually. We played a really funny trick on my friends when they came to visit us in amsterdam. They dont really smoke much and didnt really know much about coffeeshops, thinking it was still kinda illegal and all that. so we were telling them to be really discrete, dont make eye contact with anyone and whatever you do, dont cough!they'll know your amateurs!he he he
