Sweet deal, but what proof do you have of this claim? Myspace is down right now. That's a good sign. =)
Yep. I think hackers need their fucking limbs hacked off where they can sit like a fucking vegetable. Sometimes I have reservations about being against the Death Penalty.
not really... someone just found out the administrator's account password and changed his profile... that's it.
It really doesn't surprise me. Major sites are hacked all the time. They are usually only down or defaced for a few hours at the most.
script kiddies, yes, should be harshly punished good hackers however, people who actually know what they are doing, are deliberate, old school hackers, they deserve respect and depending on the colour of their hat should be given certain priveledges\isolations white hat hackers should just be very well paid black hats, set to testing the white hats work..... isolated otherwise
let the script kidz be some grow up to be good people but seriously most are just pirates who learn a few things along the way, but most will move on, they cant cause that much harm, hardly any stick around for too long. and besides if someone does fuck your shit up how hard is it to reinstall or get your server back in order? ne 1 who runs somthing important online or on their Pc should know all the routes into their shit and have back up plans just in case someone totally fucks em over. you should back u all your stuff up in the first place.
You are confusing hackers and script kiddies. They really are two different things. Unfrotunately the media and other ignorant people have twisted the term hacker into meaning something that is only bad. There are different types of hackers. If it weren't for hackers you wouldn't be typing on this discussion board. Your computer wouldn't even have an operating sytem.
Most are generally worthless but good for anarchial purposes like taking down myspace. Some. (read as: a sparse handful from each generation) Zer0_II has a point. The word "hacker" was originally coined from the term "hack," which was just a title of status that was given to very skilled programmers. Back in the supposed day (before my time), a hack was a force of good, a programmer who knew what he was doing and wasn't hesitant to teach and encourage newbies on the programming path. There were (and still today are) "samurai" hacks who were often paid by large companies TO hack their own software, and tell them what can be easily exploited so that it can be patched up and they are less vulnerable.
Usually hackers are very skilled programmers, script kiddies are people that think they know alot and think they are totally "leet", but in reality they use another programmers tools to perform those tasks, which isnt really a big deal considering anyone with a computer an a iQ of 50 can do the same thing. "Pirates", are usually the leeches of the scene not the actually crackers, therefor, pirates dont program or anything they just download and distribute the packages that other groups release. There is no doubt that myspace has there data backed up probably every 10minutes or less, so even if they do get there database destroyed or hd formatted on multiple computers, they can just use the backups once they update the software to fix the security hole. What probably happened with myspace is the script kiddie used a password list and a list of proxies to repeatedly login to the admins accnt.
agree.... just about everyone calls themselves a hacker even if all they do is download cracks.... i was married to a Hacker who tested companies systems for vunerability... a different ball game altogether But hackers (programmers) are happy to share their knowledge... hence the sheer ammount of free crack downloads etc. in general its all pretty harmless stuff.... but some just enjoy causing mayhem.... bad bad...
Backups can't really be done that fast ... especially for humongous sites like Myspace. I'd say, once a day *at best*, and it's probably more like once a week ... because on my web server, making a backup is done voluntary, and it can take up to a whole day. Any decent admin has a password failsafe where if you log in three times over the course of like 30 minutes, you get locked out for 24 hours. So brute forcing an admin password is highly unlikely ... It is likely, though, that the password was cracked rather than the site hacked. In that case, it'd have to have been a method other than brute-forcing; perhaps someone got ahold of the admin password and decided to do something evil with it. Or maybe they just used a really dumb password like "admin" or "qwerty" lmao.
not all of em, they are pirates who just download and distribute stuff, and then you got people like Paladinz who completley own teh world. n besides when you leech you gotta wait for the good shit, but when you work hard and get distro axis then it all falls into your lap, real pirates aint leeches those are the people who just sit there and download.
My space is always going down..too many members with free graphics, files etc. It is website overload and it is obvious that their servers cannot handle it. My space now goes down several times a month...
in order to alter any web templete you need to be logged in as the administrator, or have access to there ftp, or have access tot he cpanel
I'm sure that some of you don't know what a white, gray, or black hat hacker are. A black hat hacker is someone who hacks with malicious intent. Their goal is usually to access information or a server for their own personal gain or interest. A white hat hacker hacks in order to learn how to better protect their own system/network and others. If they find a security flaw they usually report it to the person who is effected, or make it known to the public if it is a serious flaw that would effect many people so that it can be patched. A gray hat falls somewhere in the middle of these two. All three types of hackers would have to be considered knowledgable programmers. Someone who has absolutely no programming knowledge, or at least very little, is what is known as a Script Kiddie. They use the tools that other hackers programmed, and boast to their friends that they are hackers.
