    how the hell do you read time signtures? i know that, for example, 6/8 time means eight notes get a beat and there 6 eight notes in a measure. but how do you count that??? counting is my worst area.

    You would count that as 1, 2 in a measure. You subdivide each of these counts into three beats... so a dotted quarter note would equal one of these counts, with three tripleted eighth notes in each.

    Traditional Irish music uses this a lot... listen to some.
