hey everybody, its lilly grace. i've just got a question that i'm desperately trying to answer, so if any of you can help me out, i'd greatly appreciate it.
i'm interested in possibly creating soundtracks for film as a career. there are composers of film scores, i am aware, those films that have all original scores that include like orchestral compositions and so forth, which is... cool, i might want to do that, but there are also those films out there where the soundtracks are mostly songs that already exist plus some original compositions created just for the film. i'm not sure, but i think that there is a job where these people put a soundtrack together, using already existing songs as well as writing their own, but this is different from being stricly a composer of scores for film. does anyone know anything about this? i might be creating an individualized major in this field, whatever the hell it is, and i'm guessing its quite competative because pretty much everything in music and film is. but i'm just doing a little research, so if anyone knows anything about this or even related at all, please let me know!

Hehe, I thought already myself that that's a cool job to do. But I think most directors know for themselves what song they want at a particular scene.

Yeah. I don't really know much about the field, but I would imagine that a director would know what he/she wants playing for certain scenes... or at least I would if I was a director. :D

Yeah, it's one of the coolest things to add imo :) Wouldn't want a special (wo)man for that job.

yeah I think that, generally, the only time they employ a special someone is for original scores and music...people like Jon Brion, who does both orchestral work and original songs that are inspired by the film...and even then he works super closely with the director.

but it does sound like a wicked job, good luck.

You could always be like Eno and just make "music for films" and hope someone uses it. :D
