Yeah its gonna be my first time visiting Amsterdam on Thursday.. I was wondering if im gonna have a problem with my Provisional Drivers License as I.D as I dont really fancy carting my passport around with me (surprisingly!)

All I see is information about the dutch having to carry an official I.D.. or is that absolutely everyone who steps foot in Holland? And more to the point, would my Provision License be recognized as an acceptable form of I.D?
Hey Kiada, Im from the UK too and only have a Provisional license. I found in the Dam that the prov license was fine, a couple of times I was asked for a passport, but I said it was in the hotel and they were fine with it. (I think very very slight reluctance may have come about because its easier to fake a drivers license than a passport) A provisional license is as good as a normal drivers license in terms of identification purposes. why would you need to carry id! unless changing money or something,watch out for the east european gangs who are trying fake id search scams.... been happening this summer....but didnt carry id when i was there for queensday and everything was peace full and karmicly blissed. have a good un.
Lol... ID is always a good idea, if by some chance an unfortunate event were to occurr, the police always like seeing ID, indeed I beleive it is law. Also it acts as proof of age.
I understand that there are new laws requiring you to carry i.d. - I was there for Queensday this year and it was certainly in force then (I didn't witness any need for it but the natives were restless about it!). If you've a new license with a photo you should be ok but my license (I may have mine longer. than you) is no good. A good tip is to photocopy your passport anyway, keep a copy on you if you don't want to carry it and email yourself a copy - invaluable if you lose it. I have all my travel docs in an email, including credit card and bank phone numbers in case of theft. Assuming you're a EU citizen get the E111 insurance form from the Post Office and complete it for health care cover, there's a small charge but it's valid in varying degress all over the EU; with full cover in the Netherlands. Just remember to bring it with you and scan and email if you can. Have fun!
