My favorite communist? Why, I didn't know there ever were any out there. As far as I can read in history - communism never worked in practice. However, my favorite dictator? Hmmm... I'd have to go with the lesser of the two great evils. Hitler was nasty, don't get me wrong, but Stalin was quite a low life if you ask me. I mean, he killed millions of his own people in an attempt to eliminate all potential hazards to his life-long reign and dictating power over the people - which is the point of communism, right? Oh! Yeah I almost forgot: communism never worked.
Well, he is eliminated... and MLK Jr. and Gandhi and JFK, who though not a commie, was a bit pink... Castro is the only name on the list that I admire, he has been good for Cuba.
It's a social system. Many are bribed by the US. The father of Elian Gonzales (a politician, member of the Cuban National Assembly), was offered huge sums of money for "fleeing" to the US. In order to enter the US, Cubans have to go through the wet feet/dry feet policy. If they get to US soil, many of them receive money. If they are caught in water, they are sent back to Cuba. Cuban athletes, diplomats, etc. have been offered huge sums of money. Many have refused. The United States spend some 100 millioner dollars each year of propaganda against Cuba.
Stalin was a counter-revolutionary, his crimes aginst the Russian revolution aside he sabotaged the 1923 German leftist revolution and the leftist Spanish Revolution of 1936.
Although I don't consider myself a Communist (I'd prefer Anarcho-Communism than State Communism), I'd have to say Emma Goldman.
ho chi mihn is the only person on the list who wasnt a villian and a murderer. he really was for the people and not about himself.
Yeh people have diff. opinions... but it could be true that ho chi minh was a good guy...i mean if you asked me in 20 years how bush was I would say he was a fascist puppet, but others would say he was the greatest president we've ever had.
JFK was definitly a full on communist....he never said it though....the kennedy's as a family are very socialist.
More than shallow responses, this question simplifies a theory. Communism itself has many different factions. From the Marxist-Leninists, Trostkites, and Stalinists, they all have a very different idea of what Communism is. These are not people that can be easily lumped together. Each Communist Martyr, Communist Revolutionary, and leader has carried out physical and intellectual atrocities, as with any political theory. Many killed, others lied and manipulated. To pick a favorite is to condone what they have done. Communism is socialism with guns. A true revolutionary is not subjected to the ties of one ideology. This is why I honor those like Abbie Hoffman, Che Guevara...it wasn't about party politics, it was about a message. Communism is still a red herring.
