Hey....I know this isnt exactly a thing i should be doing or anything but there is a thread in the consumer advocacy forum that is bashing both meat eaters and veg*ns alike...they go on for pages and pages about meat and animal rights and who is right/wrong.

Just reading many of those posts made me feel sick to my stomach because of the way people were throwing other peoples beliefs down.

I was just wondering if maybe some of you could help out and prove that vegetarianism can be a very good choice for all but also that we need not argue so fiercely about it.

Please take the time to read the many posts in that thread and explain how you feel to them.

    Thank-you.

I looked at a few of the posts and it seems like the all too common occurance of mixing a discussion of meat vs. veg*ism with a discussion(?) of omnivores vs. veg*ans.

Like much of society, some people on this forum think that attacking or criticising people who hold a view as a legitimate critique of that view.

    Examples:
The war in Iraq is wrong because Bush flaked during Vietnam.
Vaccinating children is dangerous because phamisutical companies make lots (and lots) of money.

In regard to the discussion of veg*ism, I have read both omnivores and veg*ans resort to ad hominim arguments. I have also read both avoid those kinds of arguments.

There is nothing more annoying than someone shoving their beliefs down your throat, whether it be activists, religous groups, whatever. I am personally vegan, but I respect people to make their own choices. When you have all the facts you are able to see both sides and discuss things rationally. When you dont, you bash others that dont believe as you should.
On the note of vegetarianism, there are many good reasons to become one. First of all, your health is at stake. Vegetables have their own health-assisting qualities. Rather than taking vitamins and minerals in suppliment form, go directly to the source. By getting your vitamins and minerals from the plants themselves, you getting them in correct dosages and at full potency. Check out sites that list natural properties of fruits and veggies. While its true that chicken and fish are healthier choices if you choose to eat meat, no type of meat is really beneficial. The fats increase cholesterol and clog arteries, making your heart have to work in overdrive. Also, our digestive tracts werent designed for meat consumption. They are much shorter than those of our carnivorous friends- not to mention our teeth were designed for grinding, not shredding. You can check all that out on various sites as well. There are so many more reasons to ge veg, and if I listed all of them, it would take all day. These are just a few reasons to get your wheels turning. Do some research for yourself, and see if the benefits outweigh eating meat. If nothing else, just replacing one meal with an all veggie dish is a good start. Good luck!
