I think this is one of the best shows I've seen in a while.. I really like Bruce Parry and think this show is really fascinating... anyone else...
I'm watching it right now... can't stand the commercials, but also can't bring myself to change the channel. The host is about to take a psychadelic drug to be initiated into the tribe...
The commericals basically take up the whole damn hour.. I was a little disappointed that they didnt show all of him tripping out on that root.. They kept feeding it to him over two days, which surprised me cause from the way they acted, it was very powerful and could kill you, but yet they fed a bunch of it to him..maybe it took that much to make him see visions and such..
i love that show.....the one where he trips got intense.....i couldn't imagine being so weak and in a foreign environment and trip like that....but he felt the love...and went through with it.....more power to him....
Its a really good show.. I was surprised cause I was thinking it was going to be lame cause I didnt think the guy would live like they do, I thought it would be some chap just going and filming them, but he actually lives exactly like they do.. And its really fascinating to see all these different tribes and so forth... Just click on Discovery every so often and I am sure you'll catch it cause they have repeats of it a lot...
yeah, that one was crazy, I wished they were able to show the parts that they werent allowed to film and such.. But it still was really interesting... How that root make him feel what the people felt that he had hurt in the past and such.. And its sad that where that tribe lives is fading cause people are cutting down the trees and they are being forced out of their homes and such...
Ya I have been watching that show a lot, it's really good. In that episode I liked how he didn't use bug spray in order to live like the tribe. I also wish we could have seen the stuff they weren't allowed to film, or at least I wish he was allowed to share one of his visions. Anyway, the show really looks into the lives of these isolated people and how they live. It's a good way for people who aren't able to travel to see all these different cultures. However, I often wonder how different the show would have been if the host was a woman. In love, Diana
Great show! I've been watching it since it started and must say I really like it. He really tries to fit in to everyday life. The one where he took the root and triped was killer, and I can't wait till they show the one set in the Amazon. The previews show the natives "blowing" powder (forgot the name-not coke) up his nose. They say it's like getting hit with a sledgehammer, then you start trippin' and go talk to the rainforest.
I really dig this show I think I've watched every episode. He really does go in and do what they do I mean he drank a cow's blood and I think he drank it out of a coconut with a hole cut out of the top and they made him gulp every drop down so he's not just fucking around doing parts of it, he's actually living like they do. I liked the one where they gave him the stuff to make him trip like that, it seemed like an intensely spiritual experience and they did alot to enhance the visuals like dancing around fire and dancing with fire sticks when they wore really colorful robes and clothes. Does anyone remember what they gave him?
I'm a devoted viewer and am extatic that someone took the initiative to start this series. I hope they never stop researching indigenous people and every aspect of their lives. I'm just hoping they look up my bloodline of the Mazatec of Oaxaca, Mexico. Plus, I know the host (respectfully speaking since his name slipped) will trip out on a couple salvia quids. Any other region in South America where Ayahuasca is consumed would truly be fantastic as well. Best of luck to them.
The episode last night was a little on the depressing side. That tribe was generally sad cause they are running out of food cause there is less and less people there and so forth and how that 10 year old girl was talking about being with that older man and so forth. Its so fascinating though to see how these different tribes live and their different rituals...
yeauh, their predicament was pretty unsettling even for a small tribe. hopefully a big economized city does help them and their children out. props to that local doctor dude for really aiding with their health. but one thing on the upside was the host's (name slipped) trance. he said that was the deepest spiritual/visionary quest he's been on, and it looked like it too. i could empathize with his happiness when he was looking at the jungle's natural divinity, though salvia had showed me. he tripped me out when he learned a line of song and started repeating the mantra. then the amount of sympathy from his 'family' by the river was an inspiring gesture. they take this guy in as a son and all that n he left a shaman, cool
Yeah, that was the neatest part of it all... And how when they started to give it to him at first how he said he felt more in tune with them (the people dancing and chanting) then all the other faces and how he knows what they are meaning and stuff, it was really interesting.. All the tribes though seen to always welcome him and see him as part of their family and are always sad to see him go.. When the show first started, I didnt think he would actually take part in their rituals and so forth, but he did and that surprised me for some reason.
anyone know if the episode the showed last week was new or a rerun? either way, it was new to me. thats the one i had been wanting to see from the previews, where the tribesman pulls back his bow arrow anxious of the host coming in, then accepts a formal tobacco greeting. i loved that part, thats the way it still is in modern communities except tobacco wouldnt be the trade. i didnt even get to see all of it. still looking foward to the rest though....
omg where have i been? i have never even heard of this show?!?!? gonna look it up on yahoo tv guide. hope i havent missed too much.
I love that show so freakin much. My boyfriend and I saw the previews and we've been watching it since. Too many re-runs though! Yeah, commercials are pretty awful, but the show is so wonderful, I'm willing to endure the commercials. Peace, Love, & Blessings to all!
For a long, long time I've wnted to live with tribes and this television show just furthers that passion.
I love this show.. But I don't really see it coming on anymore.. Am I the only one? I loved that episode where he got naked and jumped up on those cows backs and tried to run across them.. He like tripped the first time he did it and fell in between the cattle. It was hilarious! I also noticed that he had a tattoo on his white white ass lol.
