im thinking about going the natural way this time, since last time i did dreads i used harsh products and it was not pleasent. How do i go about the natural way? My friend said she just stopped brushing her hair, and washed it every 3 or 4 days for the first month or so.. and now she says she can wash them whenever.. and hers look fabulous! is this a good meathod? any suggestions?
I started mine by quitting conditioning my hair, using a bar soap (like Dr. Bronner's) to wash (every five or so days), and I stopped combing/brushing. I also used a salt bath on my hair. This dried out my hair, so the knots would stick. oily hair does not allow knots to form. I think this method is the best method to use. You can also palm roll, which I used maybe only three or four times in the last year, this helps with the knotting process as well.
i did mine by backcombing and no wax... but yea thats a good way. I mean nothins better than natural. It just takes a while for them to form ya know.
I backcombed mine. It's a LOT faster, and works if you have really straight hair, like me. You gotta have kind of nappy hair to start out with if you want ENTIRELY natural locks, or you'll wait a good year or so before you start getting locks.
not really tool. my hairs thick, & just slightly wavy, & mine formed naturaly, but it does take time, but your going to see results in a few months, in addition to what anniee suggested i also wore wool gats alot. & after u wash your hair, feel around for the clumps thayt are forming & seperate them from the others, just to prevent 1 massive dread..
I wanna go natural or backcomb but either way I'm going to have a nasty problem not with my hair but with my scalp....I have terrible dandruff and whenever I'm not using head and shoulders for even a few days at the least, it will be a snowday everyday for the next week.....Is there any way I could get rid of this if I wanted to form natural dreads without anything expensive or hard to get?
