Since I took up the veggie diet 4 months ago I've noticed that after every meal- which due to my limited abilities as a cook is one of either beans on toast, pasta, mushroom ommellette, veggie lasagne and filet-o-fish- I must have some chocolate.

Has anyone else had this or is it just me? Will these craving cease once I've expanded my reportoire of dishes?

First, Filet-o-Fish is not vegetarian. 'Nuff said there.

Second, it looks to me like you are eating very few actual vegetables. You really need to eat a more balanced diet in general. Learning to cook will definitely help with that. Cravings often result when you are missing nutrients, and eating a wider variety of food will certainly make it more likely that you will get all the nutrients you need. You may also need to eat more calories overall.

A little chocolate won't kill you. In fact chocolate actually contains phyto-chemicals that are good for you. You might try eating dairy-free chocolate. I've found that the more chocolate in a candy bar, the less I need to eat to feel satisfied.

Weird, I barely ever crave chocolate....
However it sounds like you're eating a lot of carbs moreover anything and I noticed that when I eat more carbs I tend to want something sweet later on.

First off, fish are animals, not vegetables. I know this because I am a biology major and also because I graduated from kindergarden.

A little bit of high quality dark chocolate will satisfy your craving. Chocolate is good for you! It's the fat and sugar that they add to it that's not so great. Chocolate itself has phytochemicals and boosts your serotonin which makes you feel better.

I'm not sure why you'd be craving it; maybe it's just a phase.

I'm sorry, please don't call yourself a vegetarian if you eat fish. The term you are looking for is pescatarian.

Anyhow, I do crave chocolate, and somewhat often. Usually, I satisfy it by eating Wegman's O's (vegan Oreo alternatives) or some kind of dark non-milk chocolate. Baking chips = yay.

i am incredibly suspicious of men that say 'yay'. i'm assuming you are male it's quite hard to tell look at your photo.

    No offense ...

    (1) Are you blind? Look at my profile. I'm male.

    (2) Are you blind? Look at my pictures, I have facial hair that no female would be able to have.

    (3) Are you homophobic? If you're weirded out just because a man is comfortable enough with his sexual orientation to say "yay," you might be afraid of gay people.

    (4) I'm only assuming that you're male because of your name. But I know a lot of people who make things up. Your profile doesn't even say your gender; perhaps I should consider you to be female? I hope you are not offended by this.

    (1) No i am not blind.

    (2) Again i am not blind. Regarding females and your style of facial hair: have you been to the Middle East? Under their veils the chicks over there have beards that will put your goatee thing at the bottom of your chin to shame. Therefore it is reasonable to assume you are a female yourself or at the very least a hermaphrodite.

    (3) No i am not homophobic. Why did you have to bring knob jockeys into this? I have no qualms with shirtlifters at all- I think they're music and sense of style is great, what disgusting and vile acts they want to get up to behind closed doors is up to them. Men that say 'Yay' tho- very dodgy if you ask me.

    (4) Of course I'm not offended, Tony is a unisex name after all. But if you really do assume that I am female having read my posts and choice of username, then you strike me as rather dim.

    That'll be all.

I did, especially in Germany, with all that good stuff that has chocolate in it, yum. But I'm off chocolate for good, it's very unhealthy for me. Eventhough I'll probablyy have issues with it again, once I return....:/

It is probably your body craving iron. Chocolate is one of the few forms vegetarian iron that is bio-available. It is also a source of copper that helps you absorb iron.

I'm sure he got the message after one person pointed that out. It really doesn't matter all that much that he forgot to clarify that he doesn't eat mammals but does eat fish.
