So, last year my special lady friend had brain surgery.... They had found a cyst in her brain... A colloid cyst of the third ventricle to be exact... they performed surgery and removed it just fine... But now when she smokes (or drinks) she is very easily effected by it... Like just a puff of pot makes her like instantly stoned.. And yes, she did wait a long time before doing any drug after her surgery. So I was wondering if anyone had any idea why this happened or is it a bad thing or what.

Well as far as dosage is concerned, she needs to be much more careful. I really wouldn't recommend, though, that she do drugs after something like that. There's just too much at stake.

You said she waiting a long time after the surgery... perhaps she gets stoned from so little just because her tolerance is way down? It may have nothing to do with the surgery.

Still, I wouldn't really recommend doing drugs after brain surgery... you only get one brain. It's not something you can afford to take risks with.

Yeah.. I think she has a low tolerance.... it has been over a year since the surgery... as far as I can figure, it shouldn't do any damage, not more than say tylenol or aspirin or probably less than Tylenol or any man made drug for that matter, legal or not.... When they did the surgery they said she would have swelling, because of moving it around and such... so I don't know, what are the physical effects of THC on the brain, beside widening the blood vessels?

oh and theyre non, it would be because of her different brain strucutre. im not aware of where that cyst is in the brain structure but observation of the circumstance would suggest that it is maybe due to the imbalance of the hemispheres perhaps... dunno thats just an initial hunch
but does she think differently at all since the sergury? i think thats the most important factor to consider.
it would be subtle.. but has she changed in any way?

I've had brain surgery before. It was in fourth grade, because I had a brain tumor. It was wrapped around my central breathing nerve, so if it would have grown I would have just dropped dead one day from lack of oxygen. Kinda scary... but I got CAT scans and MRI's and had surgery to get it removed. The operation was successful, and after the surgery, they tested the tumor for cancer, and it didn't have any (thank God, it was benign). Anyways, after the surgery I had horrible headaches for about two or three months where all of the blood would rush to the point of incision and my head would just hurt. Since then, I've been scanned, and the tumor is not growing back.

I smoke pot because I feel like it calms me down, and I have a lot in life to be worried about.

Luckily, after the surgery, I waited about 3 years before trying pot and then after that 3 more years until I started heavily. It hasn't effected me in any big way, but I do have an incredibly low tolerance, and I've been smoking everyday for over a year...

I just realized I never responded to this....
The cyst was basically located in the center of the brain.... the 3rd ventricle to be exact. It's like a small cavity in the center. The problem with was, it could swell and block the flow of spinal fluid, which would translate into instant death.

Her thinking has actually gotten better I believe. She doesn't have headaches everyday which has dramatically improved her mood.

does it get her more stoned period or just make it so she gets really stoned but it goes away after a few minutes?

if thats the case then its probably that after the surgery, she has a thin blood-brain barrier. blood passes into the ventricle and then into the brain. the reason you cant supply the brain with the neurotransmitters it contains (like injecting recreational doses of dopamine or serotonin) is because it has a hard time getting through the blood/brain barrier (understandably, or your brain would often leak chemicals into the bloodstream)

this is a simpistic look of the blood brain barrier, differnet drugs interact with it, and the brain differently, and there are administration techniques for dopamine and the like but thats basically how it is.

OH you said the magic word, move your ass down to canada , eh lol. Shit if I got instantly stoned off 1 hit Id be happy....but after brain surgery I too would be worried about tokin up. I guess unless its causing her sezuires or loss of consiosness, phsycotic episodes etc; she should be ok, but hey dont take my word for it cuz I amnt a doctor.

If she continues to smoke and has a lower tolerance or weird side effects..she should probably go to the doctor and ask if its dangerous to smoke, or maby go to the doctor first =P..
