I hate our government for being so completely Bush-addicted. ever since 9/11 theyve made nazi like rules that are just insane, for no good reason whatsoever. theyll do anything for the States even though any fool can show you we dont get anything back, Bush couldnt care less about us.

ID cards: a story I thought I'd never write.

Amsterdam - Sept. 20th 2005 - This is a story I thought I would never have to write. But the *neocons* managing The Netherlands, like in the US a so-called 'Christian government,' gave its approval last Friday, September 16, 2005, for the introduction of a biometric type of ID beginning in October next year; a credit-card-style 'driving license.' It's the last nail in the Dutch coffin for freedom: after the yoke of compulsory ID cards, the Dutch now get an electronic bit in their mouth, completing the electronic steering.

Freedom in Holland officially died January 1, 2005, when a new law came into effect making it compulsory in the Netherlands for everybody above the age of 14 - at all times outside of one's home - to carry an official ID. Leaving home without it means at least a fifty-euro fine and eventually a court case. The first trial - in which a batch of two hundred and fifty people is taken to court for not carrying ID cards - starts September 28 in the central Dutch city of Utrecht. Demonstrations against this both Dutch and global shame have been announced.

At the end of last August close to fourty-seven-thousand people had been fined, of which four thousand were children aged 14 and 15. Last January around 100 people a day were stopped, checked by the police and fined when they were not able to immediately produce a valid ID card.

8 MONTHS LATER THIS ABUSE HAS MORE THAN DOUBLED.

I've never thought I'd ever have to cover the same trials in my native Holland. Compassionate, understanding people and groups were always fighting apartheid and the compulsory passes for the blacks in South Africa. Thirty years ago I saw in Johannesburg what will happen in Holland next week: the inhumane spectacle of hundreds of people who have been dragged into court because they - in their own country - could not immediately show an ID card and so will be punished. And remember: we were promised a European Union without borders, where we all would be able to travel freely, not even needing a passport. None of it was true: it was all a pack of lies.

this is were mr. originality got it from. not even his expat buddies give this any credit.

which is wierd cuz they usually love this kinda stuff.

    --------------------------------------------------------------

in USA if you get stopped without an id you get arrested. however you need to be doing something to get stopped. for example: jay-walking or littering would be sufficient for an officer to stop you, ask for id, and if you don't have any? you get to sit for a bit.

moral of story: always carry id. personally i carry id in case i get killed or something. then they know who i am. unless they steal my wallet. some army guys tattoo there name and blood type on their bodies, in case there isn't enough left to identify them. of course then i guess it wouldn't matter what blood type you were.

For someone from NYC, you'd think you'd know a little better.
They cannot take you in for not having ID if you litter or jay-walk.
If you're walking and smoking a jay, then they can take you in if you don't have ID.
Which, btw, is only a desk appearance ticket if you do have ID

I have been stopped in Amsterdam since the introduction of these laws (for no reason other than walking down Marnixstraat I might add. I was told that it was a random ID check). I haven't even met many dutch people in support of the laws btw. You might also notice that the author of the article is Dutch.

Mafuman defending Balkenende policy, now that's a laugh. You know that if his govt get their way then you won't be able to visit the coffeeshops you love so dearly.

okay, i'll admit that's actually pretty funny.

although it doesn't explain why they also stopped several dutch people, all of whom were equally as pissed off and outraged that they were being forced to show ID in their own country for nothing more than walking down the street.

regardless of my personal issues i also have to admit that laws like that are garbage.

are these laws in reaction to immigration? are the authorities hoping that by targeting everyone at first, even your white dutch, when they crack down on the 'not typical looking dutch' nobody can claim discrimination a la 'random bag search'

or is this how socialist governments better organize a welfare state? from a dutch point of view: organizing people into efficient and manageable blocks.

holland is overpopulated and it isn't gonna get any bigger.

you'd think itd be something like that, but it isnt. we may seem down to earth, our government certainly is not. after 9/11 they freaked and blew up this whole terrorism thing. everything is about terrorists these days. that we were never attacked doesnt seem to make a difference. and i hate the police. theyre complete assholes, and they do discriminate. ive never been asked for my ID, but i know tons of non-white people who have, for no good reason. i also hate it how the police tell you from their car how you cant ride your bike there, because its for pedestrians.

I'm pretty sure that's illegal.. The police can't just ask you for an ID, only when there's something going on and the city has a 'noodveroordening'.. Cause sometimes they can frisk someone before something happend, but only when they have some kind of permission.. I don't know exactly how it works but I do know that they can't just walk up to you and ask for your ID when you're just walking the streets minding your own business.. What you can do when this happens is ask the police officer for his ID, cause the police is obligated to show his police ID to a person who askes for it.. This is nothing more than a little cop teasing, but it's a small way of protest against this stupid law..

Your country was attacked, or a couple of people were threatened/killed.
Theo van Gogh was killed because of what he said, and the Somali MP was threatened with her life by Muslim extremists.
These Muslim extremist don't like you, don't like me, don't like infidels.
They don't like yours or my culture, nor our respective countries liberalism or beliefs or ideas.
No one likes the politie, but, hey what can you do about that?
Do they single out people who look, act and dress a certain way?
Probably, but it isn't your grandmother who the politie need to be concerned about.

If you're killed by a tram, how will they identify you and notify your next of kin? Just curious.
