Ok, here's a good one: Exactly how much of a difference, in terms of how fucked up you get, does holding in hits make? I've been a heavy smoker for several years, and this is one thing that I've never really been able to get perfectly straight. I'm sure that it makes at least SOME difference, but how much exactly? Say you smoke 1 bowl by yourself. How much of a difference would holding in each hit for let's say 10-15 seconds make compared to holding in for 2-3 seconds then exhaling? In a way I would think that when you hold in for a while, since the smoke is trapped in your lungs, it's almost like taking a hit every few seconds for as long as you hold it (more or less). But I dunno...can anybody give me a sure answer on this?
I have discussed that issue many times, and finally did a little research. THC dissipates in the smoke after about 5 seconds, so holding it in longer than 5 seconds might get you higher, but only from lack of oxygen!
holding in your hits is also unhealthy. you ever noticed that the longer you hold in your hits, the less visible smoke you exhale? well guess where the smoke stays... in your lungs!
also, the vast majority of the THC is absorbed the second you inhale. now it is true that our lungs are very inefficient - for the amount of air we usually take in one breath, we should be able to make it last a half hour but oh well, our biology isn't set up that way. reagardless, the smoke/air combination diffuses into the lungs quite rapidly so holding in hits more than a few seconds is not going to do much. i've noticed a definitely difference between holding 1 second and holding 4 seconds. good differences, of course. peace.
definitely a difference between holding it in versus exhaling immediately (as with cigarettes) but you don't need to hold longer than a couple seconds. if you're a lightweight, though, it makes a big difference. since very small amounts of thc will get a lightweight high, the extra bit obtained by holding for 5-10 seconds can greatly reduce the amount of weed they need to smoke...so loading a pipe one hit at a time and holding it in can REALLY make a newbies bag go a LONG way. not to mention they stay high longer, too. a newbie smoking this way can usually make an eighth last about a month, even smoking every or every other day, if they only smoke once or twice during days they smoke. a lightweight who isn't really a newbie anymore (but could by no means smoke a blunt to themselves...) could make an eighth last about two weeks or so by using the same method. of course, all these statements are gross generalizations. basically, the lower your tolerance, the more of a difference you should notice from holding your hits.
Well ill like be smoking mass kindbud ( not as often as i like to, but sometimes) and i'll notice im not really getting high just buzzed, and then i'll start inhaling deeper and get way more stonder. In the 80's it i used to smoke that real skunk, it was so tastey id hold the hits until i let no smoke out at all. It was mandatory for me then. L.O.L. good to the last drop.
i used to hold a lot like that, till there wasn't much "smoke" left at all. now i'll hold 2-10 seconds, usually averaging around 4 or 5.... it sucks that if you hold until theres no smoke left, it still smells like pot when you exhale. that would be a great trick for highschool kids in their parent's homes
Yep, you don't need to hold the stuff in for to long and by all means don't hold it in to the point where you're gagging!!
Yeah what the others said, THC is absorbed very quickly, within a matter of seconds. Holding it in longer will just release more tar on your lungs, nothing good.
I definitely notice a difference if I hold it in longer. When I get to the coughing point that's when I feel higher, faster. Not gagging, just a good ol' stoner cough I dont know maybe its just me?
Naw its not just you, you will get higher, faster. When you hold your hits in longer the smoke (and therefore the THC) stays sorta trapped in your lungs, think of your lungs as a sponge that absorbs the smoke hehe. In general you will notice if one night you hold your hits in alot and smoke a fair bit, you will wake up feeling a little more phlegmy (eww?). Peace - J
When I just started and didn't know what to do, I figured if I'd hold it for like 40 seconds, I'd get WAY high... I did this for many many hits and it ended up making me freak out and get really sick.
i knew some one who was in the weed test at the U of miami about '80. They made them hit the joint slowly for 30 seconds, and then exhale for 1 min, take a breath, and do it again, 5 times, and then play pinball. Try hitting a joint like that- it ain't easy, and you will get stoned.
The effects on hand eye coordination. You got a $1000 to sit in a hospital ward for a week and get stoned.
