I was recently listening to "Turn Turn Turn " by the Byrds. The words came from some bible passage. I don't beileve in God persay. I beileve in Karma, but I was really digging the song. It moved my soul. Does that make any sesnse? Does anyone else like that song? "A time for a love, a time for hate, a time for peace I swear it's not to late".
I know exactly what you mean. I think it's a good song too, but, as someone else mentioned, I have listened to it too often to regard it as brilliant anymore. When I consider it, however, I like the message and the harmonies. Do you like Crosby, Stills, and Nash?
Yeah I like some CSN. I like Woodstock, Wooden Ships, Southern Man, Ohio, Teach your Children Well, as well as some of their "newer" stuff, like any song of the album, "Daylight Again".
this reminds me of when i was watching some mindless television with my sister and it said something from the song, and i burst out laughing and said "Why would they use a Byrds song at a funeral? That's so kooky!" and she just gave me this evil glare and said, "It's from the Bible, you nut.." I felt so silly! I guess that's what I deserve after not being a "good puritan" like the rest of my family Just playing. I just thought I'd share that utterly useless story x). it was awhile ago when I said that.. by the way. Don't pass judgement upon this once-unwise goosehead .
On the recent PBS specials about the 60's, Pete Seeger said how he added the line "I swear it's not too late" in response to the anti war feeling at the time. He said the Byrds did revamp his version somewhat, but what a great song. Timeless, whether you agree with the Bible or not, there is much wisdom in some passages.
