I have a problem... I like to be barefoot but for some reason anytime I jog or run I get shooting pain up my legs and I either fall over from pain or can't move and have to sit or it won't lessen. The pain will actually feel like I'm having a "charley horse" in my legs. Its hard for me to be barefoot anywhere because I have to run after my kids alot. I just end up wearing slippers lol. That still hurts btw but the shock pain is less. Is there anyway to correct this or does anyone know what this is, how it might have happened? I think it has to do with the arches in my feet. For awhile I did pretty well but now the pain has started again. If it helps I first noticed it while playing basketball in school when I was 13....

i wonder if its even your feet at all, could it be nerves? muscle spasms? and maybe arthritis.

I think it also may be the way you are landing on your feet. When you walk or run barefoot, do you land on your heel, or your ball first? You should never put all that force on the heel.

    Hope this helps a little.

It might be syatica (spelling?) which is an inflamation of the syatic nerve which runs up your leg. I'd definitely have it looked at, if it is in fact syatica, it won't get better until it is treated.

Sciatic pain can go up from the lower back, down the side of the thigh and then comes around to the front of the lower leg and along the side of the foot. Its different for everyone who has it.

If it is sciatica, it is caused by the sciatic nerve being damaged by one of three things:
    1. The piriformis-a muscle that goes from near ur tail bone and goes out to the greater trochanter ( the other bump below ur hips) which will squeeze onto the nerve if it is too tight (because it runs through ur gluts
    2. The sciatic nerve actually being located in the piriformis muscle
    3. General damage

so if uve got tight glut muscles, u may wanna go and check it out with a doctor and if they think its appropriate, u can go and get a massage to loosen it. But make sure u see a doctor first:)

Sounds also like it could be related to plantar fasciitis. This has to do with the tendons that run the length of your foot on the sole side, across the arch the long way. I'm not sure if this is it, given that you describe pain in your legs. What about "shinsplints," which are tiny stress fractures in the bones of the lower leg. Runners can suffer from that.

I hope you feel better soon.

I thought of plantar fascitis too...I have that, and don't dare go barefoot anymore, at least for long periods. I wear Birks or Chaco's (that have excellent arch support), and that helps a lot. you may want to go to a podiatrist or a chiropractor that knows something about foot pain to get a definitive diagnosis. Do your heels hurt when you walk a lot? Do your feet stiffen up in the AM, making it hard to put your full weight on them until you've stretched them a bit?? A foot doc may be able to help you figure out what is up. Good luck...I know that foot pain stuff hurts...

no matter what it is, it could be serious. and from what i read from everyone else, it could be anything. and since i dont think any of us are doctors, i guess a checkup cant hurt, even a chiropractor.
