I just started working at Target and it's the same thing for me! Red shirt, khaki pants and socks and shoes! I throw them off right when I get into my car and drive off.
Luckily, I get to wear flip flops at my job, and 90% of the day, I have them off anyway. That's the benefit of working in an I.T. Office.
Makes me miss my old job on the docks... Sit around barefoot most of the time, catch a tan, read, and watch the water. Most of the customers prefered that I was barefoot anyway... so's I didn't scratch up their fiberglass when I had to climb on to the bow of their boats.
Ya know what you should do? Get an exacto knife and cut the soles out of your shoes. On the very bottom, cut all the way around to leave it open...they would look like normal shoes on the sides and tops...but your feet would still be bare on the bottoms. Okay...so that's a crazy idea
And a completely useless idea as well. It's been mentioned before, and really is no better than wearing shoes WITH the soles. Sure you get some texture, but there's still no airflow. Plus, it would ruin a perfectly good pair of dress shoes. Also it really wouldn't take much to notice the lack of soles by a fellow employee or the manager.
That sounds like a real bummer, oh the sacrifices we barefooters must endure to earn a living! Question: Could you possibly wear a clog of some sort? I know your toes will have to be enclosed but a shoe that does not have a back to me would be a little more comfortable.
I feel for you Heero .. I slaved at RS for 3 months, at least the one I worked at can be described in one word A N A L. gawd I hated the job and the money was minimum wage OR commission whichever was greater and of course the manager got all the big ticket items. anyway, it sucks that you can't barefoot at work any more :-( hopefully it'll be a short term job and you'll find something much better and MORE BAREFOOT FRIENDLY. peace out, bob
I said this in another topic, and I'll say it here too. I went to Radio Shack yesterday, and the girl that was working there walks past me, and says "Did you lose your shoes today?" I just said "No, but I highly thank you for your concern." Then she had the most confused look on her face. I guess people at Radio Shack have never seen or heard of barefeet before.
Yeah I'm going to try it for a while and see if there's anything better while doing so. I do want to move eventually so I may not be working there very lon.
Sacrifices, yes. I doubt they'd let me wear clogs. They have to be plain leather casual dress shoes with full backs.
Well I just got back from my first day. DAMN do my feet hurt. I have to stand all day, and it's been months since I've worn a real shoe. This sucks bad. I'm definently gonna keep checking on other jobs.
Hi there Fangz, have been a while since I visited this forum. I thought you worked in a factory and had to wear shoes with iron toe-protection??? Nice feet you have, Heero134, too bad you have to hide them in shoes now... BTW, can anyone tell me what Radio Shack means or is about? Being Dutch, I never heard of it before.
Radio Shack is an electronics and telecommunications store here in the States (and probably a few other places). They sell all kinds of gadgets, wires and devices, usually for less than you could find it anywhere else. Also they have a phenomenal supply of those odds and ends that you can't find in the larger stores, so tinkerers and electronics hobbyists can find pretty much anything you would need to buy, make or fix electronic goods. Ugh. I hate jobs that require a dress code. I'm so thankful I don't have that problem. I'm writing this on my lunch break at my desk, bare feet propped up on an ottoman I have under the desk. I wear my flips into the office, take them off where they remain until I put them on again to go out or go home for the day. And to the bathroom...if you've ever had to share a urinal with 50 other men, you can imagine why I won't go into the bathroom barefoot.
Yep, I worked in a siding factory storeroom which required steel-toed boots. That sucked. I have been working at my current company for almost 7 complete months now. The majority of my work is in the I.T. office. Every now and then I have to go out to the warehouse floor to dink with something, so I have to keep a pair of sneakers under my desk for those times that I need them. All in all, I would say that 5% of my time at work is wearing shoes, 10% wearing flip flops, and 85% barefoot. I am so glad I found this place. Much better environment, and friendlier people too.
Thnx for replying Fangz, and congratulations with having found a job that allows being bf 85% (or even 95% if I count wearing flip flops) of the time. And I thank Barefoot Matthew for explaining Radio Shack; I thought it was a radio station or something.
Yer welcome. Yeah, I definitely consider this the absolute best job I have had. And there are several reasons for me to say this, aside from the foot freedom it contains.
