Anybody know how accepted barefooting is around the Orlando area? I'm moving down their to escape the Boston winter.
Not too sure, but I've read in previous posts that it's slightly common. I would LOVE to move away, and start a completely barefoot life (whenever possible) elsewhere. The main reason I don't barefoot as much here is my job, and that everybody knows me and It would be more akward to explain myself to them.
Yeah, explaining yourself to people sucks.... but I find that most people are intrigued and even envious of someone who has the balls to go barefoot. I love your gallery pics.
I dont see the need to explain myself to anyone, id just go barefoot and let em have their issues with me if thats the case.
florida has been great for barefooting; you can do it year round! i moved here escaping the NY and VT winters!
I live in FL. For now. I fucking hate it here. Contrary to popular belief, you can't go barefoot 24/7. You'll burn your calluses off on the hot pavement. People aren't too friendly about the whole barefoot thing. There's tons of places with signs that say,"shirt and shoes required' on the door. Plus,on a different note,FL is filled with nothing but fashionistas and old people.
one of the funniest antibarefoot things happened to me in Pensacola. I stopped at a Texaco mini-mart, filled up and went inside to pay. the guy behind the counter said I couldn't be in the store barefoot. I said I just needed to pay for the gas, he said again that I couldn't be in the place barefoot. I told him I didn't have any shoes with me and if I couldn't be in the store barefoot, how would I pay for the gas and then I quickly said, "if I can't be in here barefoot to pay for the gas, then I guess I get it for free." He got a really dumbfounded look on his face. I could actually see the cog wheels slowly turning and then he said "well ok, just this once." I spent another 10-15 minutes "shopping", didn't buy anything else, paid for the gas and left. He still had that same blank look on his face when I left.
That's really a wonderful story, TX! Some people are really too stupid to be true! As if the guy did YOU a favor to be bf inside, instead that you did him a favor for being honest enough to pay for your gas. I surely would have shrugged my shoulders and left without paying...
I live in south fla. no problems in going barefoot, some places, but not all. and yes during the summer, the heat will burn your feet.
Thanks so much everybody for all your input. The area I'm going to is Southeast Orlando.... Apparently, it's far from the tourist activity and is near a university. If I know college students (which is 1/3 of Boston population), there will be some fellow barefooters around. Also, for the first time in my life, I'll be living with a dog - that means nice long walks around the neighborhood - only thing missing there is the weed... but that shouldn't be to hard to find down there.
I actually DID go off without paying for gas just once a couple years ago when I was stopped at the door. Not my style, not to pay, but sheesh---I just closed my open wallet, turned, walked, and drove off. I won't do that again, but, really! Once, this summer, on a rather rare occasion of being hassled at a gas place, I told them that I never come into their store for anything but gas (since their prices on other things are high) and thus, since I've already pumped my tank full, I have to "remind" them that they probably will let me pay for my gas---regardless of how I'm dressed. They do. On one of the few major incidents this summer (RH Foster, Ellsworth, Maine, "On the Run") went to corporate HQ and I got a "little" sympathy. After wearing them down about there being no state law, no liability, no danger, all they could come up with was "what if you cut your feet, coming inside from the pumps to pay, and track blood all over the store floor---" INDEED. I'm currently working on a case with corporate HQ of Home Depot, which suddenly has NOT turned out to be a bf friendly place, and got me closest to an actual physical confrontation as I've EVER been in my life. (Ellsworth Maine, again) This has been a very successful summer, but the few downers have been bitter, indeed. (PASFS---people are so fucking stupid)
I live in the orlando area, and if you go barefoot, most people just think you're homeless or white trash. Who cares?
