Eerie ... boffins have brought dead dogs back to life, in the name of science. Yes look here http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,15739502-13762,00.html

They basically preserve the body tissues at a certain temp, a little above what a cold dead body should be. Then they remove the blood and add in saline salt solution, and refill the blood, and electric shock the heart. In the mean time of preserved tissues, I can imagine in the future, any type of sergury could be done, and then one can be brought back to life. Amazing, what do you the people think about this? Humane, immoral???? I think its ummm well playing god if you ask me.

I think the 'burying the dog in the Indian graveyard where noone goes anymore" part is probably the key.

what the hell does this have to do with psychedelics?

and i seriously doubt the legitimacy of this story, i'm unable to find any US coverage of it, though it was said to happen within our borders. in a place such as the US, this would be highly controversial and would not fail to make the front pages of even some of the best news sources we have. perhaps i need to simply change my search terms though.

at any rate i think its a terrible idea. already medicine has advanced quite a bit too far to be ecologically sound any longer. people are living longer than ever before, disease and injury kills far fewer people than ever before, and now instead of adopting some of the many, many children that will never have families, selfish infertile couples can introduce even more people to the world by artificial insemination and the use of surrogate mothers. infant mortality is at an all time low, and while the majority of really old people seem to be quite miserable indeed (definitely not all of them, but a good lot of them!) we want to push the life expectancy higher and higher, with goals as high as 120 years old before death.....

and why? because we don't want to feel worthless. because we're afraid of being "just another person" and we pretend that simply because we're human our lives are more important than the lives of plants or other animals. but its been said before and i'll say it again, WE ALL DEPEND ON EACH OTHER! nature is currently terribly out of balance, and its in no small part due to exponential growth in population. almost all of this population growth is unnaturally accelerated by medical advances. instead of spending so much of our time worrying about individual life value and getting better and stronger medicine and longer and longer life spans, we NEED to be focusing our attention on how we can instead remodel society to live in harmony with our environment, stop polluting so much, stop driving other species to extinction, and stop destroying the planet. what good is it for everyone to live longer if we destroy the earth by doing so? life is becoming worse and worse by the day for the majority. you think rapid expansion of population is going to result in a higher standard of living? then why are people living their whole lives without every seeing a real forest? why are people stuck in smog-ridden cities and terribly poor conditions? no, a smaller population wouldn't inherently solve ANY of these problems, and what medical advances we HAVE made i would never encourage destroying. however we need to be far more ecologically minded than we currently are, and need to learn first how to live with the earth, and second how to live longer.
