I had never been a huge Grateful Dead fan, but my friend's dad took me to The Dead show on Saturday in Mountain View, CA. Now I know why everyone says it is better to see them live then listen to their studio stuff. The show put off excellent vibes. Everyone is so easy-going and the drugs just flow! Toe-dye everywhere you look! My favorite parts were the lot before the concert and the Drum Space during it! Even though I wasn't using that night, I was still trippin' out!!!!!!!!

to say its all about music is wrong too. if it were just me, the dead, and any old uptight people, then i'd rather see someone else. they're music creates the celebration atmosphere for me, and its great listening, but so much more too.

um no - it is not wrong too say it is all about the music - for the true fan. Don't get me wrong, I've had some great times partying at the 30 odd shows that I saw while Jerry was alive and seeing the boys in their various bands since, but for me it was ALWAYS about the music. Most bands that I am into it is primarily about the music, but the Grateful Dead has always been something more to me than most bands. We are a rare breed, there are many people who like the Grateful Dead, but there are those like me that have this spiritual connection to their music where I could see them in the most staunch environments in the world and still love it. I actually did once. One show I saw from a luxory box with a bunch of bankers when I was 18 - no drugs, saw the show straight as a ruler, and it was still magic.

I meant in my first post that the entire vibe was good. It fit the music and the feeling of letting go was great, just dancing and listening. i just wanted to set the mood of my first one! :)
