Some people have been sitting on the highway all day trying to get out of Houston and have ended up only going a few miles. The hurricane is on its way, so the mayor told people to evacuate, but now they're telling people to go back home because the major roads are flooded with cars. Some people are running out of gas while waiting in traffic. That's insane.

Yeah my uncle lives outside of Houston and my dad told me he sat in traffic for five hours to go ten miles or something...

Yeah, people are camping out on the side of the road now. On the plus side, the roads in town are pretty empty. It's nice.

I've got some people that I'm trying to get home right now. They are in Mississippi on their way to Florida, hopfully they'll be able to catch their plane tomorrow. They said it took them about 2 hours to go 30 miles... they've got a ways to go. I just hope everyone isn't stuck in their cars when Rita hits because they are all sure to be doomed.

Sitting in my parent's house. We're on high ground, so if it floods, we'll be fine.

Oh but aren't you worried about your house being damaged by winds?

In my area, we won't get hit too hard. Right now they're saying to expect 65mph winds, but there is a chance we could get hurricane force winds. We're kind of on the edge of it. I'm not too worried about it.

Our wonderful "masters" having grossly under reacted to the last one are now going to grossly overreact to this one - I believe you are in the right place - Good luck and stay safe.

  11. I love that the incoming lanes are open........

why don't they just have 10 lanes outgoing indstead of five, hell the lanes are clearish anyway, maybe just 9, someone wants to come in make them use those single lanes in the middle that they are using for government vehicles......

Thank you. I'm pretty certain that I'm in the right place too. I'll probably lose power and possibly water, but I'll be fine.

yeah, cause people can't be expected to take care of themselves. local governments in a hurricane zone can't be expected to have a decent evac plan. no one should ever be expected to have supplies for emergencies and stuff.

I guess I can take solace in the fact that after the storm people are going to overcompensate with help.

It is probably very wrong of me to wonder how much of this "help" will disappear between the giver and the recipient. My experience with organized charities has not been good.
