Anyone ever think about how closely knit religion and the public or government is? My teacher was talking about how in ancient Egypt in the pharohs used to call themselves gods to help control their people. Any thoughts and how that could be releated today? It's sort of creepy that it sounds very similar to now, with Bush pulling a "Bread and Circus" (sp) on us now with the common enemy and such. But really I just wanted to put it out there.
Religion + State have killed, oppressed and enslaved more people than all anarchists and individuals combined. Now, we have the BIG THREE (Bush Admin.) : RELIGION, STATE, & BIG BUSINESS. As David Gilmour once sang, "There's No Way Out Of Here"...
Dreamer my friend. Occam has this desire to give you all he has. All understanding attained. But how can he. You are a BEACON of pure question. Thank whatever god there is, that you can exist. Occam hopes your life is wonderfull...thank you Occam
People choose to accept being controlled, and they also choose to accept the dogma they are told, and the first command they follow is to never question it. It is much more work to sift through all the available information and then formulate a personal belief system. Besides, once you do that, all the people who have agreed to follow the edicts they are given will not accept your views as being valid. Religion can be used for control, but doesn't have to be. It is like most other things, it can be exploited by those in power to solidify their control. Just like education, the legal system, the political system, etc. can.
BlackGuard Thank you.. Thanks. Nice to know others on this forum have personal belief systems. Not so obvious from the pap that is posted. Worthy of a thread on its own ? Occam
The impulse to control the behavioral identity of others is an anal-retentive homo-erotic impulse. Religion, as a function of a society's super-ego, reveals the intensity of a society's homo-erotic preoccupations by the intensity of its controlling impulse. The more effeminate and weaker a Man's sexual-identity, the more that Man will behave like a Woman and seek the controlling authority and security of a father-figure GOD. Effeminate Man's Ego needs to mask its own latent homo-sexual behavior behind the curtain of GOD'S authority. Effeminate Man's Ego will compensate its weak sexual-identity by creating an identity as GOD'S chosen. The more effeminate and weaker a Man's sexual-identity, the more Man must compensate with a patriarchal religion that controls Female-Sexuality. The Patriarchal Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam reveal three of the most anal-retentive homo-erotic expressions of our collective super-egos.
man ive been atheist for a while now and recently my friend brought over a bible so we could use some of the pages for rolling paper ( another story) but anyways i decided to start reading it. it was the biggest piece of bullshit ive ever read. it specifically states in one passage that you must not speak against god or your ruler. i think religion was simply created to put fear into people so that they would fear gods law and do what he said to. you ever hear parents say that they want to put the fear of god in their children? fear=control for many
In the founding of the USA, there is a direct statement that all men are created equal, yet the very men who penned such idealistic concepts were for the most part slave owners. If slavery was not contradictory to that equality notion, then it must be that they did not feel that slaves were men? It sure smells bad to me, and I doubt such minds as theirs actually believed that skin colour determined whether one was a person or not, therefore the conclusion I have come to is that they were not acting as they were professing was the right way to act. The term 'speaking with forked tongue' comes to mind. In most written works that endeavor to assist people in the cause of living together peacefully there can be found points that are disagreeable. The Qu'ran states, 'Allah loveth not the aggressor.', and yet followers of that faith sometimes disregard completely that sentiment. Freedom of religion is a promise that the USA has granted all citizens as a right, regardless of faith. Yet, to this day millions of people still say that certain faiths do not deserve this basic right. In the near future it is quite likely that the practice of selectively following the guidelines laid out so clearly by the nation's founders will lead to an intense dispute. The outcome of this fight will depend on how strongly the values of respect, acceptance, and equality are truly held by us all. If the lack of these qualities is too widespread, then a bloody civil war may well be the tragic result.
