Danica patrick has almost locked up the rookie of the year award in the Indycar racing league. She almost won the indianapolis 500 this year, and is pretty damn cool in my opinion. i was wondering if any of you had heard of her. The next race is sept 25, 3 30 eastern time, and theres only two left in the season, so like i said, she almost has it. www.indycar.com, if youre interested.
Yeah I know about her...there has been a few woman drivers in Indy, Formula 1, and NASCAR. But if you got the money, you can get a fast car... Personally, it I can drive fast two if you put the right engine in a car for me.
ahh, the reaction to the sport itself.. interesting. true- it is a big money sport, but you have to love to drive to get there. (ie go-karts at 15yo). the other female drivers have come and gone . Danica finishes top ten all the time, and like i say, she'll prolly win rookie of the year driving a 320kph car. I myself dont think i could do what she is doing.
Don't get me wrong, I give props to any woman that can break through in a mostly male sport, company, etc. I just dont' find any celebrity very impressive (ok, maybe just one...), so don't take it personally LOL
no not personal at all. i deliberately posted this in womens issues because i thought it would be cool to get some honest opinions about something like car racing here. i dont care about celebrity either, but i do care about skill... so thats why i like her. And she's interesting to me because shes not butch at all - shes actually really freakin girly off the track, and yet has the presence of mind and reflex to race indy cars. haut baby, haut.
I don't care about racing because its the machine doing the work not the person. Sure the body is a machine but its not one you can put a different engine in.
Yeah, not to mention you're driving in a circle. Giving a Southerner a trophy for driving left for several hours straight isn't my idea of a good time.
kind of generalistic reaction - its not all oval track bullshit- http://www.indycar.com/schedule/?event_id=51 there's this weekends track - 7 lefts and five rights, 60 laps.
Illinois? No. And you're right it's Indy not NASCAR. I was commenting on NASCAR. No idea what Indy even is.
now thats just incitefull.. hey, what do you call an american with a university degree? (a dumb american! ah hahaha..)
No, I'm not kidding. Kelowna has about four people in it, Murray's a bit of an alternative dude, and I figgered ya might have met.
I've been living an antisocial lifestyle for the last few yrs, so even if you werent talking bullshit, i wouldnt have met murray. i currently know no murrays. i have known a "merle" in the past - and my old bus driver was named murray - but at this point in time - no murrays.
well im not big on material stuff or showing off stuff, which i think this sport is..... Good on her for doing what she loves , I think her ability or talent could be used in a better way, ppl who get in to this kind of sport I think just love the attention they get. And im sure she gets laid often so Hey what a great sport...........giggle, snort.
ok, so i like a capitalistic sport. I realise that now. the apogee of human technology is ultimately a falsity- but i wouldnt say she gives a fuck anyway. most athletes dont see the big picture ; they're like pit bulls. they can percieve a lifetime's worth in a moment, but they dont percieve their lifetime overall. bah i've been drinking.
well, the race is just over.. she stalled her car mid race and got way into the back of the pack, but she finished 16th, and did clinch the rookie of the year award.. anyway theres an update. so her team is rahal/letterman, letterman being david letterman - i didnt know that till today. and now.. i award myself the "most uninteresting thread in the womens issues forum" award . cheers. and IronGoth, sorry for being a dink to you earlier in the thread.
