Have somebody heard about them? They are the best doom - gothic band ever! There are so much emotions in their songs, I just love them! Anybody?
Yeah, they're one of my favourite doom bands as well. I saw them live once at the attic of a barn a year of 8 ago. Hehe, one of the first shows I attended.
wow so how was it? I'll probably never see them... Thats the cryel life at the end of the world (by the end of the worl I think Macedonia)
They're from the early nineties, don't know why they named themselves like this. Haha, I can't name one song that they played then. But it did leave quite an impression at the time. Of course a few years later I realized how great it was to see Anathema at such a small stage and at that time (i think it was after the release of Eternity). I like their stuff before Alternative 4 most, so I didn't check their latest albums anymore.
Well, doom is type of metal music. You can't exactly recognize it yous by reading it's definition. If you want to hear doom, get one of the older albums of Anathema (like The silent enigma or Alternative 4), the new ones are some type of atmosferic rok. You can also hear Lacrimus profundare or My dying bride.
Doom does not equal Gothic. Metal does not equal Goth. Marilyn Manson has NEVER been Goth, but he has been seen sneaking around Nic Fiend's wardrobe. When he's not busy looting Alice cooper's.
Gothic and Doom are two completely different things indeed. The only thing they have most of the time in common are melancholic, depressed or mystical lyrics. Some typical doom metal bands are Candlemass, early Anathema, Cathedral, Reverend bizarre, My dying bride, but also early stuff like Saint Vitus and Burning witch. At the moment i'm more into bands that sound like some kind of mix between doom metal and stoner rock. Sleep, Acid king and Electric wizard are three great bands in this genre.
well see i hate almost all metal and other headache inducing (to me, of course anyone can listen to whatever they like) music, with a few notable exceptions. so i'm not even going to bother looking them up...no offense, i was just curious as to what would cause something to be called "doom" music...plus i can't download music and this isn't my computer so i can't download a program to get mp3s or anything, and i'm not buying a cd i've never heard. the only other time i'd heard the word anathema was in a 1992 book by neil gaiman and terry pratchet, a hilarious novel about the end of the world called "good omens." anathema was the name of a character in the book. i was just curious.
My Dying Bride is my favourite. The Prophecy, November's Doom, Mourning Beloveth etc (MDB's side of the doom spectrum) always appealed to me more than Anathema. They're OK though... especially Crestfallen and Pentecost III. And, more recently, Judgement. (Doom metal doesn't weigh up (well... figuratively speaking) to black metal though!) When thinking Doom metal, think slow, heavy, mournful metal. Think Black Sabbath on its most suicidal, squared (so to speak). Terry Pratchett, obviously, rules.
Who said that doom and gothic are same? I just said that Anathema is a doom - gothic band, because the album Eternity is gothic. And please don't tell me about Merlin M. He isn't worth a shit!
I don't like My dying bride so much cause they have so melancholic and depressing sound. I prefer anathema because of their calm sound filled with soft distorsion. I'm so sorry that anathema are not so popular, maybe that is cause of their style changings during their carear. First they played Black-Death than Doom, than they put Gothic elements. The latest albums are with rock elements, that is not even metal anymore. Now r trying to play somethic like atmospheric rock with chill out Did U hear about Lacrimas Profundere? They r some kind of doom too and they r so great
Kaj si ma Maro? so si se razborela tolku a? Imas pravo za merlin m i jas bi go rekla istoto This was a message for Marija? Marija loves "Hipicon" from Ohrid
Elena sais the trought about u! And anathema are boring. They even don't have a style. They change it all the time. That's stupid. They don't know what they like. And I don't like the old style of singing- the doom vocal.
Anathema have been a Doom Metal band from the start on. They just had a a lot of death metal influences in the beginning, just like My Dying Bride and Paradise Lost (the 'Yorkshire three'). But yeah, a lot of doom bands incorporate gothic elements in their music. Lacrimas Profundere ('Burning: a wish' and earlier, not their newest) sounds more like My Dying than Anathema to me. Also very depressing. Try their album 'Memorandum' if you don't know it yet. It's rather standard in its genre, but it's got great atmosphere and delicious melodies.
I know memorandum and i like it more than burning a wish. Abouth their similarity with My Dying Bride (like u said) I don't think that they are similar to each other, that's only my opinion I agree that Lacrimas are depressing too, but not that much like M.D.B.
