My friend wants to learn how to play rock/pop piano, more of a classic rock sound, and her birthday is coming up. I want to buy her the best book out there on this subject. She already plays a little bit of piano, but I don't know whether to get her a beginner or intermediate book on rock piano, I'm so confused!

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

i didnt know you could learn it from a book?

i just worked it out myself...

you learn blues and jazz and keep as much as you want and work out your favourite songs.

Instead of a book, you should buy her cd's that have great rock-oriented piano/ists... The Mothers of Invention, The Rolling Stones... she'll learn it fast, stay interested, and develop her own style all at the same time.

Yea, rock piano isn't really a study kind of thing. Just listen to records, and figure it out. Maybe learn some common chord progressions, and such. A good chord background is necessary. Know all the major, minor, augmented, diminished, suspended, and seventh chords to begin with (looks like a daunting task, but not really that hard).

i have noticed from some piany pieces of music for some dead songs, the key is usually written with a whole fuckton of sharps or flats....of course that works well with the black keys being pentatonic...so you can miss a note here or there and its not as easily noticed...makes it easier for you to rock out.

the easiest way to learn to play is to join a band...

you cant really say the "easiest".....i mean, people come from different backgrounds of music y'know? a concert violinist learns to fiddle a different way....
