Ok, so that black ipod nano is so fucking cool that I'm about to break down and order one. But I've never had an ipod and I'm worried about software issues and usability with windows. What I want to know is -- Do you have to use itunes to put songs on an ipod? what about pictures? Do you have to use iphoto? I mean I don't think they even have iphoto for the pc, do they? can I just move files on and off like a plain external drive, or do I have to use certain software? And what about multiple machines? Can I easily downlaod files off an ipod to another machine? Can I use it to transfer big files to and from work? Any info would be appreciated. Peace.
from what i know about ipods (which isnt much) is that yes you do need apple's software to upload files onto your ipod in my opinion, just steer clear of the ipod altogether, to much compatability issues and such. not to mention some of the bad reviews i've heard from people i know who bought them. im looking at getting the iRiver H10 10gb, which i've heard nothing but good things about
I loves my iPod. Works just fine with my XP machine. Yes you do need iTunes to synch with your music library. But personally I love iTunes as well. I had been using it even before I bought the iPod. As far as photos - I'm not quite sure how that works, I would imagine that you would be able to just drag and drop onto the iPod. Also take note that you can use it for storage of anything you want, just like a regular portable hard drive.
You dont need iTunes to put music on your iPod, you can use alternative software, you can also take songs from your ipod and put them on a different computer but you need special software..someone asked that question a couple days ago try searching. I believe you can set your iPod's sync mode to "manual" so that way you dont need iTunes to keep your music.
What your "supposed" to do with your piece of hardware you bought is not up to Apple. Although im sure they wish it was. "You can live in the U.S., but you're not supposed to smoke marijuana, laws and such..."
agreed Do whatever you want with the thing. I'm using mine as a remote control But as far as synching with your library, iTunes does an excellent job.
